The wooden parts don't fit into to marine style but the other weapon look great.

me neither. even if i pretend the wood is something else, i still don't like the style.

apart from that, those guns, though they look light, don't look too sturdy and would probably be unsuitable for a combat situation. the marine weapon concepts we've seen so far have been streamlined, but also <b>solid</b>. so far I think I like the most recent marine weapon concepts; actually, I'd like an update on those <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I havent said to model and skin them as they are, the interesting thing is their style and stock...

    I've been secretly hoping that NS weapons would move towards looking more like the <a href="http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=FAMAS" target="_blank">FAMAS</a>, <a href="http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=XM8" target="_blank">XM8</a> or <a href="http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=L85A2" target="_blank">L85A2</a>. If not, I'll have to make custom ones when its finally released <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asrifle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::asrifle::" border="0" alt="asrifle.gif" />

I don't think any of those guns fit an indoor close quarters combat type.

I'm fairly confident charlie and max will be able to find or have already found the best fitting weapons.

the models for weapons in any shooter is quite an important aspect in the game imersion for me as is the sound. A good gun model looks and sounds satisfying. I like bits of those guns but they look a bit light wieght and gas powered to me. I prefer guns that dont look too much like real world weapons. Alot of the guns in AVP i like but not so much doom 3, or FEAR, but the worst is battle field 1942 and its follow ups. in my opinon the guns in those games look like toys because they seem very short and they make a pretty pathetic sound and animation.

I like ns 1 gun models (a part from the HMG) but the sounds good do with more umpth. For me the weapons need a grittyness tied with some high tech (like the ammo counter for example) Something that looks like an industrial damage deliverer rather than a sleek assassination weapon.

Right. And I said that not only did I not like the style, but excluding that, I don't think that style would even be suitable for NS2.

Personally I've always thought compact weapons, particularly submachine guns, maybe carbines and bullpup firearms, of a style similar to for example the FN P90, would be suitable for NS. (Check out the FN F2000 and SAR-21 too ;p)
*also, check out the fictional Seburo Weapons: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seburo" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seburo</a>

I reckon a corner-shot system would be pretty damn cool for marines to have at their disposal too.

Having said that though, I do like the already compact look of the more recent marine weapon concepts. I want more concepts though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

NS2 marine design is going to have organic (insect-like) elements, which will also be seen in the weapons. Read this <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2007/04/were_going_to_need_bigger_guns_1" target="_blank">blog on weapons</a> if you haven't yet. And here is a set of early concept weapon drawings as well as a later one:

Why insect-like? It shouldn't be a surprise at this point, because it's a big part of the marine design. They talked about it in detail in videocast 1.

How to make weapons insect-like? - No idea, since i'm not an artist. If i understood correctly, Cory's (lead artist in NS) method is that he looks at many (insect) pictures and gets inspired by some of them - then he takes these unique components and puts them into his designs.

My guess: the gun might look segmented in some areas. General shape would be curvy rather than blocky. The bottom concept weapon is much closer to what i'd imagine to be insect-inspired weapon... Again, i can't begin to imagine how the weapons will look like, but they'd have to fit in with the rest of natural/insectoid marine design.

Well I don't know if the guns themselves will look more insect like. They all ready have a rather distinctive look. The very bottom lmg looks bug shaped but doesn't really match the TSA weapons IMO.

NS1 weapons were kind of an afterthought - there had to be guns, but there really wasn't extensive work on their design. This will change in NS2. Now they try out multiple designs and will come up with cool weapons. I don't think they have to stay faithful to NS1 weapon designs at all.

The <b>marines</b> yes, even their other technologies, indeed. But the weapons? Doubtful.

    I agree with local:
<!--quoteo(post=1670802:date=Feb 18 2008, 10:59 PM:name=locallyunscene)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(locallyunscene @ Feb 18 2008, 10:59 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1670802"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Well I don't know if the guns themselves will look more insect like. And even if the 'why' was answered, there's still the matter of 'how'.
