Kotaku have up two movies well worth watching if you have your eye on this very impressive looking game. For those who haven't heard of it, think of a merger of your favourite platform game format with gary's mod. I'm really excited about this game, and it blows that the game won't be out until September. Anyone else interested in it?

    It's PS3-only, isn't it?

I'm sure you didn't need me to confirm that, but yes, yes it is a PS3 exclusive.

I'd be excited if the game had some sort of plot and/or enemies you have to team up against. The sandbox mode looks semi-fun, which is just going to come down to people recreating levels from Mario (irony!) but it's not worth buying the game for. They still have 9 months to release some good stuff.

I would never buy it my self (regardless of my lack of interest in the PS3), however it makes me glad that some of my friends do have PS3s, so I will get to play with it.

There will be enemies in the game. The basic idea is that the default levels that ship with the game will reward the player with components for their custom levels. The rewards will range from objects, textures, stickers right up to enemies and bosses. There will be equipable items too ( I'm sure you've seen the jetpacks from the TGS demo ) and although I've seen no specific mention of weapons, I really can't see how the game would function without them. These recent demos are the first to show the basic structure of how the game works in terms of competition and cooperation between players. It is reminiscent of 'Bubble Bobble, 'Rainbow Islands' or 'New Zealand Story' in a way I guess, and those are the games I'd immediately think of when I think of platformers. Who is this mario you mention? A minor character in NZS perhaps? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

It was a rethorical question re: the part of your post I quoted. You might also call it an answer.

PS3 only? Bleh. That'll hit sales.

Can someone tell me how only selling to one platform can be a good thing? Besides for the maker of the platform?

It's easier to develop for a single platform than for multiple.

Also it means you don't have to use time on converting/splitting the development, making the investment smaller.

It's supposed to make people actually want a PS3. It just makes people want to not buy a PS3 and want Little Big Planet on other playforms.

The company was founded by the guys who did Ragdoll Kungfu. Sony snapped them up for an LBP exclusive after seeing it ( possibly at the GDC ). This game will be available to download on the PSN, I don't think it will be in the stores. All the consoles have exclusive network downloads now.

There are also some rumours of tight Home integration, with someone suggesting that your LBP avatar can accompany you in Home.
