Alien and Marine DI

Following on from Podcast 14 where the idea of an alien commander is as good as confirmed by charlie and max, and where the role of the commanders become less vital to the existance of other players, can I suggest the following ideas which would make the commanders control of DI a big strategic tool in the game but one which wouldn't require individuals to necessarily pay attention to the commander (a BIG frustration from a comm's point of view when noone listens!):

Marines have DI as well in the form of nanites.

DI has its own res reserves to allow the commander to spend this on more DI or normal res towers/chambers (these would require constant application of DI res and build at the "natural speed" as if a gorge dropped them then left). So for example you could drop 10 CO chanbers in the hive at the start but they would all try and drain 10 res each over the build time which would require 100 res, and so take a long time to build!

DI's res would be gathered from kills made ON the DI, e.g. an alien kills a marine on alien DI, then the res fromt he kill would go into the DI rather than the individial alien's res reserves. I feel this is a key point as it would balance the defending/attacking styles of players, as those that play "solo" can range into enemy territory to kill would receive the rewards and then they can choose what to do with them, whereas those that play to maintain and slowly extend team ground will also receive their rewards with DI perks (see below) and possible gifts of res from the commander.

Both marines and aliens receive perks depending on the DI they're standing on, for example on a alien DI infested hallway any aliens would receive a health and adrenaline boost while marines would be slowed (think slogging through mud) and have health slowly drained (and added to the DI's res reserves).

The above points would make the interface between marine and alien DI the major battleground, while there would still be potential for scouts to go behind enemy lines and do DI clearing operations (weldbot? of alien equivilent, say a "hive mind" that the alien comm can control?)

Res towers can have a DI node attached to channel all res from that tower directly into the DI res reserves, this would only be doable by a player gorge so a alien comm could not arbitrararily decide to ###### all the res, it would have to be given to them by the players.

The alien comm could "gift" res to individuals so they could then evolve higher abilities/lifeforms. The way I see this is as a reward from alien comm to defending alien players (who's kills would have gone into DI res) and to help defend territory.

Just some ideas, let me know what you think.

As long as its the area not controlled by alien DI. I don't want the 2 sides to play the same, that would kill everything NS stands for.

I'd like the benefits to be subtle, like aliens being able to bite DI to heal themselves and commanders not being able to drop certain stuff on it. Nothing that would discourage offense too much though please.

There already are nanites everywhere working for the Frontiersman (how else could you explain how the commander can drop items or how ammo and res are delivered?). I think that making them an active part of the game is not a good idea since it would add unnecessary complexity and would (as already mentioned) make Marines and Aliens even more alike (if nanites work just like DI).

over-the-top area bonuses lead to territorial based games that are slow and turtle like
