New Game Mode

<div class="IPBDescription">with LUA?</div>we all know: Variety is the spice of life.
Why not take the idea of aliens wiping out colonies and make another game mode / map type for this:


Marines receive a stress beacon from a remote colony that aliens have been spotted on the facility, and the remaining citizens (5-12) have locked themselves secure in a safe-room.
the marines phase in to the room and are now tasked with the duty of protecting the citizens for X amount of time before the drop ship can phase them back up (or come and collect them from an LZ?)

so now its like a VIP / Assault game type, aliens have to kill everyone of the VIPs, marines have to protect them and possibly get them to a safe area.
points per VIP safely departed, round based?

marines have a limited tech-tree, perhaps start with motion tracking and start with 2/3 resource nodes in the safe-room, while aliens are free to capture the whole map. the used of weldable doors and such would promote a scout-party of marines to seal off a route from flank-attacks while a couple of marines stay in teh safe-room with the VIPs to defend them, when the scout party is done securing a route the trek to the LZ can begin

VIPs will sprint back to the safe-room if a marine dies (to prevent CS-style lameplay)

    How would these nerfed marines hold off an entire alien team that can take over an entire map and grow stronger? The life expectancy isn't great for a marine in the first place, let alone VIP bots vs humanplayed aliens. I like the idea, but these two are quite serious issues for it not to be an one sides spawnrape.

    I think thats the idea, its trying to prevent the inevitable so its more of a time oriented gameplay mode. Which team lasts the longest on marines wins? The Vips could be dumb like the CS:S hostages and the aliens try to kill them. Would be pretty fun ^^ and would lead to some fast hectic gameplay, combatty style but some people in the community and better yet abroad might like the idea.

    I've been thinking about using LUA and NS2 to create two of my own gamemodes, which would each be a specific map. One I planned out for a class already, Knockdown, and the other, I just thought would be awesome, MechWar. Since I've been learning modelling and texturing (and i already know mapping), i'll either try to learn LUA or find someone who can help me with it. But damn, if they ever drop... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    *Onos not moving and looks like talking to a structure: "Hi mister movement chamber! You want to send me back to home? ^^" pewwwwwwww*

    Marines just need nodes to tech, but I think that aliens are to fast for this to be a effective play style, although it could be really really fun! It would take alot of balancing but it is far from impossible.
