Is it a skulk or not?

<div class="IPBDescription">hullucinating?</div>Ive added this thread, as its based on a post i made on the babblers thread a while ago, and its taken me ages to get round to giving it, its own thread.

The question is it a skulk or not is what a rine will ask him self each time hes a gorge and a skulk, assuming the alines have the upgrade.

The idea is the gorge gets a new abiltiy, possibly initatly or possibly after 2nd hive or some other upgrade. The gorge shoots the marine with a barb, simular to the skulks parasite. except this barb is silent and does no damage. Instead it causes the rine to hulluvinate and see a skulk.

the skulk is not real and can only be seen by the infected rine, it only lasts a preset period of time, and is controlled by AI. If the AI skulk attacks the rine, it dissapears on contact. The rine cannot kill it by shooting it. The skulk should appear relatvily real, move like a normal skulk and bleed like one. Only the infected rine can see the skulk, his mates cant. The skulk woul also have to spawn out side the rines view.

This abiltiy would provide the gorge with a distraction. the gorge could then escape. Or the gorge could sue this ability in conjuction with a real skulk. adding a deycoy to the rine, so he has to assess which skulk is real.

This would ahve to be balanced on duration, reinfection time, and how many times the gorge can perfom the action per min.

But i recon it wud be uber cool to have rines shooting at nothing, and it could add to the atmosphere and skill in the game.

This ability would not technically harm the marines, but it would require them to develope skills to survive it.


there are how ever some technical problems invloved. If the skulk spawns just out side of the rines view, could it acidently spawn in a wall or crate? If the skulk bleeds does the blood show up on the floor/walls. If so will this blood disapear whne the effects wear off.

    This would be so cool, it would be good for those situations when you know a marine is coming but your in a bad spot to get away. As for the technical issues, the devs would think of that its their job <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />. I think it would be hard to make the skulk act believably and if there were two hives up would the "image" skulk be able to use leap?

    there have been a lot of hallucination threads overtime, and i have supported most to all of them.

    the original Team Fortress even classic and 1.5+ all have a spys grenade that if your effected you begin to hallucinate.

    with in your field of view, random things begin to happen, you see grenades, explosions, exploding grenades you hear them hear sounds of being stabbed see red sniper dots seeking you out all sorts of weird in game crazy stuff. but they use sprites and sprites only as well as sounds and random fake your taking damage, but your not cos you look at your health.

    its usually enough to get the spy in close.

    and we have seen how effective in current gen games it can be to have 3d models and or hallucinated effects can be, take FEAR for example, the ghosts are still models just flagged so they don't interact with you, but those ghosts are on trigger.

    i think the best thread i have read geared on the same subject is of. If a marines parasited a heap he begins to hear things see, see lerk gas, hear Ono's running around, thinks hes being chomped from behind to turn around and see nothing there. fake motion blips, fake dots jumping at you on the mini map, are you going crazy what were. also i think a slight HUD drunk effect needs to be added so you know your hallucinating, more paras renew the drunk effect and continuous paras make it worse. oh no your out of ammo, where's your team mate he was just standing right there.

    you walk into a room take a heap of para's you see OC's fade out of no were and spit at you you duck back then waste 8 grenades by lobing them into a room thats completely empty.

    its effects could be beautiful, hum do i think it should be a gorge weapon, prolly not, do i think it should be a sulk weapon i would love for it to be, do i think it should be a kharaa only weapon and that the marines should have nothing like it, ###### yeah this should most certainly be a kharaa perk, marines love ######ting there pants anyways

    if implemented correctly newbies would realize that they are under a effect, and not freak out at a new learning curve they cant even fathom.

    well see that could be a option also, the additional choice for marines to eat DI.

    "So if we eat this stuff it will push it back?" "yep it sure will, a mate of mine in C section said he was eating it one time and he seen a purple Ono's" "SWEETTT"
