    Actually, NS is NOT a competitive game.

    All multiplayer games are 'competitive', since they all put people against each other. But the devs have made it clear multiple times that NS focuses on the public play, and the competitive scene is second. You're using 'competitive' in the sense of ranked leagues with clan vs clan matches. Thats not what NS is about, but you can certainly do it if you want to.

Do forgive him, it's just a bi-product of natural-selection (gene mutation) that he got less brain cells than some of us <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

    On topic, I'm pro-atmospheric enhancement, and would love to see the return or addition of different types of fog, smoke, mist (in alien controlled areas), reduced lighting and other such things. These are abandoned, overrun space stations or colonies that are lost in the deep of space. It should be atmospheric, we are fighting for the survival of the human species!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    While he is abrasive and doesn't spell check his posts or check his logic, calling him dumb is a bit uncalled for. Even if he can't express his points very well sometimes he's just trying to make sure NS2 doesn't lose core gameplay. Think of it this way, he wants NS to be as cleancut as possible for the best possible competitive gameplay while you and I would rather add in visual effect to enhance the atmospheric gameplay element we enjoy.

    b) NS is an <b>competitive</b> game thereby drawing <b>competitive</b> players who like to play such games I feel justified in saying a large portion of the community wants NS2 to be <b>competitive</b>.

    Once again, it all depends on what you mean by atmospheric. I'm only against using darkness in NS2 for the atmosphere, I'm for the ambient noises (as long as they aren't loud at all) and blood splatters and computer monitors and all things like that.

    We should really split this discussion into two threads, one about the level of darkness and the other about ambiance.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Just to be clear, we're not taking about darkness so much as fog in a hallway near a hive or water dripping from pipes last Atmospheric Processing in Bast used to have. It doesn't conflict with your viewpoint either way, but I just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing. There are other topics about darkness in NS2 in this forum.

    I think I see what you're saying and it is in line with the idea that atmosphere is an important part of NS gameplay. However, I sincerely doubt any devs have said that. Whenever this topic is brought up the devs usually say that they don't want to cater to either gameplay style and want to balance between pub and competitive gameplay so it's fun for both groups.

    I wasn't talking about any leagues. This game is supposed to be competitive on a public level as well - which is what you just said.

    If for some reason you find my spelling flawed, I would love it if you brought it to my attention immediately.

    On the other hand, take a look at this sentence structure:
    <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->that he got less brain cells<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Note how doofy here substituted "has" for "got". This is alright for a 12 year old, but he'd better get to work on his grammar.

    <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Even if he can't express his points very well sometimes<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Which is just about the hardest thing in life, you can't express your points well either.

    Exactly.

    Because everybody buys games for the pretty graphics. I like your logic.

    Yes, I was thinking about a different thread. But this applies to this one as well, if skulks can hide in it, you have to make sure that it doesn't overpower them. Having 90degree corners is good enough already.

    In this very forum section, though I don't remember what the topic was, Max stated that NS is meant for both audiences, and that they've always worked to make it more so.

    Despite the fact you're reducing an argument to the absurd again I'll respond. I'm not in it for the most polygons or bloom effects which is insinuated by your comment. I'm simply talking about immersive gameplay. NS has some of the best maps not just for gameplay, but also artistic beauty. They're a meld of form and function and they almost all have different textures, styles, and back stories. I understand you don't care about that, but I do. You don't have to agree with my opinion, just respect it enough not to belittle it.

    Now you get it. Yes it has to be balanced, but it shouldn't be removed completely.
