the neck brace problem

<div class="IPBDescription">i turn my head.. and my body follows</div>the biggest problem in ns is the turning problem.. sometimes we want to just look around a corner.. but at the same time trying to turn our head to look sideways, our body follows.. it is like we are wearing a neck brace forcing us to turn our complete body to look at something..

I would like to have the ability to turn my head and not my body.. much like holding shift to walk and ctrl to crouch, why not add in a binded button to turn your head and not your body. so we dont reveal our complete position in the dark by suddenly spinning our whole body sideways to look left and right.

movement is a big issue in ns, marines and kharaa find players by them moving suddenly to looka t something, because your body turns when you look at something, it completely blows your cover and you now have to fight to survive instead of a surprise ambush attack.

having a bind to turn your head and not your body would help diminish your chance of blowing your cover to look at something.

even having a possible bind that lets you look around wall corners quickly much like in medal of honor, a double check before entering a possibly infested room or heavily guarded room of turrets..

theres nothing more i hate than to strafe 5 meters into the hall to look and to be fired on by turrets and scuttling back to safety with minimal health..

having these two abilities will encourage more tactics to be used with more success from both teams.

THis kind of movement (popping out of cover to look around objects) has traditionally been neglected in HL/Source games primarily because it is more of a realism attribute than anything else, and I believe it would have been added to CS if it was easy to do.

The function works great in third person shooters (gears, max payne) and O.K in games like Medal of Honor, but I think not having the function proves to add more tactical thought than remove it... you have to judge before turning a corner (or strafing around it) whether it is safe to do so, or suffer the consequences. The commander's ping provides this tactical advantage.

    I'd say it s something to keep in mind, but I believe it'd be a fancy addition, rather than a needed improvement <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

The system you are discribing is similar to how movement works in the oldschool battlefield 1942 engine.

    Turn slightly --> move head
Turn more --> move head and upperbody
    >90 degree turn --> full body turn

And ofcourse the MoH peeking around corner idea is a nice addition (originally intorduced in rainbow six, I believe <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />)

Well I think it would be nice to have as a skulk, mainly because the shape of the skulk can give out your position depending on the spot your on just turning can make you stick your butt in the line of fire.

Which is one of the skills you pick up when skulking. You have to know how to align your hitbox just so that marines wouldn't be able to see you or hit you. Especially true for resource towers right now.

    Obviously.....

The point is skulk visibility is reduced to only seeing foward, they dont have hips? They dont have a neck?

Anyways, there are few situations that this is actually useful, and it is entirely dependent on the area your hiding in, not to mention it would be two more keys to bind.

Another way to implement it is you could have it so whenever a player looks so many degrees in say the x direction or whatever, only the head moves, but when you move past that point you body will shift and center on where your looking, no keys to bind and you can still look a little bit around without giving away your position.

Yeah, for anyone who hasnt tried it, the new Medal of Honour: Airborne demo or game has an awesome new cover method; much more intuitive than the Gears/R6 cover, as well as standard peeking. But, it does lack the ability to move when you're peeking, but I think thats actually a good move.

Oh and Airborne is surprisingly good all around. I always preferred CoD (the new one looks amazing too), but MoH really, really pulled it off with Airborne.

Despite the coolness factor, and unless your offering boobies, I see no reason why you posted this here... She has a good point concerning movement and the head moving problem!

OMG OMG OMG kylie girl. Girl get in that art thread and impress us, you have been absent far to long with out any productivity, I hunger for NS related works or even horsies. Glad to have ya back.

Hum all I see is gordan freeman siting in dun buggy/swamp rat, a simple key that still gives you forward, backwards, lean side to side, plus full head and not body movement would easly work. *you basicly get this from jumping in a hl2 vehical.

Me personaly I just want the sulk camera pulled more out of its body, cos seriously my eyes arent embeded in my ribs, i dont have to poke my entire body out around a courner to see down that coridor, its lame barely my nose should be sticking out let along 45% of my entire hit box. this should of been fixed since forever and it agravates me to no avail.

the blue sulk view point is how it should be the red sulk veiw point is how it is now, and it sucks so hard, obiously i learnt this a few good years ago but it makes life difficult.

its good having a trade off between information and vulnerability. also, you need to keep the 'arcadey' movement as it's been described.

heh i am planning to make more ns art soon.. i have been very busy and i have still yet to complete this damned commision for my boss of her pets <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> .

I think our view should be further out too, not so far down the throat, we may as well see our legs too since our eyes are down our throat and not on our head... although i can understand the eyes in mouth thing.. i still believe we should have the ability to turn our heads.. skulks do have necks and while they only turn their head slightly, their body follows quickly after the initial head turn.
