A few questions
Well my friend and I just released the first beta of our gamemode Pirate Ship Wars ( <a href="http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=423220" target="_blank">http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=423220</a> ) for Garry's Mod, later we are hoping to create a Source SDK mod with Lua support ( slim chance of creating our own engine extremely slim ) and continue Garry's Mod gamemodes and myself making NS2 modifications when release comes. Anyways my questions are
* Will Decoda cost anything
* If it costs something will we be able to legally give it to our team
* Will there be an SVN available
* Will this qualify the buyer for constellation
Thanks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />
Also amazing web design huge props for that.

* NS2 will be a retail game. They're aiming for something like $20 but that could change at any time.
* I'm guessing the NS2 license will be like any other retail game: you buy a copy for yourself and if you want to give it to someone else you can't both play it at the same time.
* SVN is a revision control system. Games don't come with that.
* I <i>sincerely</i> doubt it.

Sorry I meant will Decoda not NS2 how did you not see everything about Lua programming? Please don't post if you didn't read the entire post please or have no idea (hint if I say Decoda and programming 900 times I'm talking about Decoda).
I'm personally hoping for a free version + paid support type thing, but I suspect releasing this project like this at all is entirely for funding purposes (which, when it comes down to it, is fair enough by me.)
Yes, our indie license is $50 per seat/user. Decoda will most likely be included with NS2 for free though.

Nope, sorry.
* Will there be an SVN available
Decoda has support for source control systems that have SCC plugins available. There are some SCC plugins available for Subversion, although I don't know how good they are.

No, but you still get our appreciation and the gratification knowing that you're helping us to continue development of Natural Selection.
That's becoming an "old world" licensing model. All but one of the software licenses we have came as either free-for-opensource or cheap-for-opensource. I just acquired a free-for-opensource license for VisualSVN today. My guess is that because Decoda uses VSS, that the default is to use an MS style license.

I'm in the same boat as Termy, I manage another addon for Garry's Mod, Wire. I'd like to get a license for our team, but we're not made of money (<span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>well, one member in the team is a millionaire, but he's cheap ass and he does our web hosting at his data center for free</span>). We might be able to get together $200 for a license, but there are at least 8 of us and up to 12 at times. The value isn't there to try to collect $500 when only a few devs could use it and I'm guessing we'd have to buy a new license when someone leaves and someone else joins, that's how the MS licenses work out side of the 100+ volume licensing.
I'm also part of another team (6 people) that are doing 4 other addon projects of Garry's Mod. The integration with SVN via VirtualSVN would be very useful as we all are working on parts of it at the same time, but same thing, licensing cost are prohibitive.
Even just for myself $50 is a little outside my "hobby" price range, $40 maybe, at $20 I'd buy a few extra for the lead devs on all my projects.

We understand that for teams with no budget the indie license price may be a little high. Believe me, we know all about making games with no money! That's the reason we're selling Decoda -- to help finance <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/" target="_blank">Natural Selection 2</a>, or at least recover the cost of developing Decoda. There's one other visual debugging tool for Lua which costs $100 a seat for an "indie" team, also requires Visual Studio (which costs another $250), and doesn't have all of the features of the $500 professional version. So at $50 we think we're priced pretty competitively.
A few points about the license. Our license is not based on the Microsoft license and if someone leaves your team and a new person joins you can transfer the license. A site license allows the licenses to be floating so that as long as only X number of people are using Decoda at one time, you only need X licenses.
We'll continue to investigate ways that we can offer Decoda to teams that can't afford the independent license fee. However if we offered it at a significantly lower price, I think we will have to remove some functionality or hard code it to only work with a specific application like Garry's Mod. I'm not crazy about that idea, but we'll keep working on it.

Due to the nature of Wire mod, most of our devs have MSVS2003 or newer for their professional use.
One problem still is that by "leave the team" I literally mean "stopped making updates and disappeared". After 2 months we classify them as MIA and count them out.
Isn't the site license $200/seat? So if we had 3 seats and 6 of use have it installed, the 4th person to launch it would get some kind of error.
If you made a custom variate for Garry's Mod, you should add support for the extra C++ style operators and comments it uses.
