problem with bf 2142... HELP ME!

<div class="IPBDescription">why are EA so !@#$</div>Ok so ive had BF2142 for about a year now, but guess what? Ive never actually played a game online? Why would that happen might you ask? Well because the official patch that i have to install to play this marvelous game simply wont install and i gave and resorted to playing other games.

This is the error message "cannot find install folder for bf 2142".

Now i have not altered the game files in any way, but this lame message appears, prevents me from playing online and of course the game is virtually worthless unless one plays online.

To put the icing on the cake i cant even UNINSTALL the game... yet another error appears when i try. Wow im so happy that i have 7gig that i cant use!!!

in conclusion... I HATE EA!

Any help on the matter would be SO APPRECIATED guys...

    Sheesh man, take a chill pill (hahaha welcome to the 60's).

    Where is your bf2142 folder? Im guessing that the registry key the installer made doesn't point to the correct installation path, see if you can find it in regedit. (run -> Regedit)

    Also, even if you can't uninstall the game, as long as YOU can find it you can manually delete the directory it's in. That won't take care of the registry keys associated with it, but at least it'll free up the space.

    Meh do what lolfighter said and reinstall? Easiest way of fixing this.

    I for one HATE installers which do this, I don't like to reinstall games when windows needs a reinstall and simply have them on another hard drive. And them some patch comes along telling me the game isn't found. I don't feel like backing up all the register keys as well, just gimme a good ol' extractable patch without installer damnit! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    Ah well at least windows doesn't need a reinstall that often (ghost FTW)...

    You could always try posting it on some BF2142 <b>related</b> forums, will probably get more help from people who have had the same problem.

    I had a similar problem with Oblivion. I uninstalled it off C:, installed it to K:, and the patch wouldn't work. Which means I couldn't install that knights of the nine thingy. I thought fine whatever, I'll uninstall it from K:, but it back on C:. But now it won't uninstall. Which is apparently a common problem with Oblivion, sometimes the start menu uninstall won't work and you need to do it through the DVD menu. But that just tries to install the game. Acts like it's not installed in the first place.

    I email tech support. Two weeks later, I get a reply saying "Have you tried uninstalling the game?". I gave up.
