More Interactive maps

maps with more buttons
In earlier versions of NS maps there were more buttons to press, trains to ride and interesting stuff. In later versions often all that survived were the elevators. I assume much of this stuff was taken out because of bugs.

I would like to see more interactive maps/environments in NS2.

Makeing maps more interactive shouldnt take too much focus away from nodes, and hive locations as tactical postions but add more depth to the game.

I dont just mean putting in more buttoned doors, and train systems but a whole range of stuff. e.g

moveable barrels/ barricade material

security camera networks

flooding/draining systems

depressureising systems

lasers

industrial crushers

destuctalbe/reparable power generators

zero gravity rooms/areas- also mentioned else where on the forum

smoke

destructable walls/bridges

useable mounted machinery and weapons

All these things could add tactical options to a map. All these options could also over complicate or add bias to a map so they would have to be used carefully

Although i recon these kind of additons would be easier to use in combat maps rather than classic ( if the two distictions will exist).
this kind of thing may have been covered else where on the site or forums but ive not read it so here it is.

I think the idea of "security camera networks" is the only one I don't care for, since the comander is supposed to be taking care of where and when... This would kinda make some people try to ignore him completely and just use cameras. However, the rest are definitely sounding great! I hope so too...

yes its all good there - as long as they provide some strategic benefits, rather than just gimmicks.
e.g. the map would say kind of like a snakes and ladders type thing.

Marines weld a door shut which blocks a path for an onos, but then skulks can climb through a vent and a control system which then lowers a walk way in another part of the map allowing the onos around the blocked door etc etc

    its up to the mappers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Weldable and alien able to lock resnodes are missing from this list.

Oh and they have been done in NS1 *cough* by me *cough*

Also to add to the "camera idea" with a twist

I think that there should be buttons on the map that only the commander can see, so that he can easily press them to open doors and what not. They would be next to the door or whatever interactive element you like, and to save the commander having to precisely click the same button that marines have to press, there should be a bigger button facing upwards outside of the map that only the commander can see and press.

It'd just make things a lot easier for the Commander.
