Okay, so, Halo 3. First off, this is the newest trailer, titled with Halo 3's new marketing campaign:

<a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/h/halo3/believe/default.htm" target="_blank">Believe.</a>

I'd have found a Youtube video, but when I put this up there weren't any- hell, the video wasn't released at all til 5 hours ago on that site and XBox Live.

I've fallen into the hype machine- before, I was eager for Halo 3, but more for it's purpose as filling my online FPS needs('cause originally, CoD4 no one knew much about, and TF2 was so low key no one really payed attention). Since, other things have come, my love has been passed around, but the machine has caught me again- for a lot of good reasons. The Halo 3 MP Beta was tons of fun to me- It was <b>exactly</b> what I wanted. It felt more like Halo 1 than Halo 2, but retained the good of Halo 2- its Hitboxes were returned to proper levels, the autoaim is so minimal you could almost turn it off and not notice much of a difference, and my biggest complaint, Grenade physics returned to their Halo 1 ways. The lag, even the beta was minimal, the weapons were balanced, the graphics good enough(with the first proper use of HDR, in my opinion), and the level design wonderful.

When the beta ended, it wasn't much to me. I had interest in playing it still, but Forza 2 was close, I had other games waiting to be played- so I played them.

Within the last couple of weeks, a few of my biggest questions have been answered:
<ul><li>Saved Films - Isn't this just a glorified /demo?
Turns out, not quite. Granted, it is mostly just a /demo reel. But the idea of sharing videos is fun, and the implementation is exactly what I would've wanted- not only a main page of Bungie's favorite videos, but the ability to get in a lobby with friends over Live, watch videos together, comment on cool scenes and etc- it all seems like they actually thought out the wonders of a real community.</li><li>Have they learned anything from the abysmal Halo 2 campaign?
I learned earlier on, that most likely, yes- being they considered Halo 2's campaign a "failure"(Frank O'Connor's words, not mine), and that they won't make the same mistakes again, was good. And considering I didn't even enjoy 1 level of Halo 2's single player, seeing a video of one of Halo 3's missions that really is going to be in the game(as opposed to the videos we saw before Halo 2 that looked great, but never made it in) has pretty much sealed the deal for me.</li><li>Are they milking the Halo franchise, or properly burying it like they(Bungie) promised?
Note- I mean this for Bungie, and Bungie only. Considering they've sworn off doing a Halo game again, in at least the FPS capacity, I think they're burying it properly. Halo Wars will be a nice, interesting prequel from Ensemble, and the other tie ins you hear here and there about small like small things- budget items, maybe- that are there just for those who want to be in the universe as long as they can.</li></ul>
Furthermore, I've gotten tons more interest in the game, for various reasons.<ul><li>The Forge.
The Forge completely took me off guard. I didn't understand it for a long time, til I listened to one of the Bungie podcasts where they covered it, and it really said 1 big thing: This is what Neverwinter Night's Dungeon Master mode should have been. The ability to midgame spawn items into the game, take them out, vehicles too(unless someone is in it, in which case its locked), hell, any item- make your own game modes(I just heard today on Shacknews about them making a baseball style thing with a pitcher who uses the Rocket Launcher and a batter who uses the Gravity Hammer) with all kinds of variables, and hell, even customize powerups- sounds like multiplayer fun. And this can be done with people playing on the map at the same time or not- and those modifying the map aren't invincible either, 'cause they fly around as monitors that can get shot out of the air. Luckily for them, you can move Spawn Points, too...</li><li>The AI stories
The number of stories just on the jungle level(one of the first 3 I believe) I've heard is incredible- most of them from Heroic mode(which the Bungie team is saying is 'the real Halo 3'), sound awesome. One for example has the player taking on a group of Brutes- after taking 2 of 4 of them down, he's low on shields, so he throws down a bubble shield and tries to hide inside, watching his enemies, who are wary to come into it, lest they be punched in the face. Except...one of them throws down a flare(a new Covenant thing that basically blinds you for a few seconds). Oh, no worries he thinks- I can still use my Radar. Except...oh damn, the other Brute just dropped a jammer. Now he's blind, in a bubble shield, without ANY indication of enemies coming nearby(since the shield makes quite a loud humming sound from inside). They've said this has only happened twice now, but it doesn't change how manipulative they can be- they've had them run up and all throw grenades inside, sometimes they all gang up and come in to melee at once, hell, they've dropped energy-sapping-shield-wave-thingies(I forget their name) to force them out of the shield- and this is all just one situation, with just one piece of equipment. They've seen all kinds of AIs dropping the jump pads to get into better sniper positions, and even a group of shielded jackals pulling a 300-style move and making an impenetrable shield sphere together(where they then proceed to shoot you like mad). Halo's AI was great for changing up situations- it now sounds like they finally just let the AI do what it wanted to.</li></ul>
I'm real excited. I don't mean to be the bearer of hyperbole- I just really dig the Halo universe and gameplay style(despite the fact most of you on the boards hate it), and for me, this is the only title I think that has a chance in my mind of giving Bioshock a run for its money for GOTY(Note- this is because I have terrible luck with how little I enjoy Bioware games, Assassin's Creed sudden silence in the press, and Orange Box probably not having as much random-fiddle-features(this isn't a bad thing, just...Halo 3 has 'em, OB doesn't. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> ).

    Nice post Q.

    I've never been a big Halo fan, but since my girlfriend's son manages a Gamestop I'll be on it before the public sees it... w00h00! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    Quality, <i>quality</i> PA comic.

The OP video isn't CG right? It's live action?

Meh, I dunno, that comic did nothing for me. I think I've heard too many jokes about marketing companies trying to pander to kids by using people who would never talk like the way the marketing companies need them to talk to get the kid's attention.

    i.e. the joke is old already, I guess? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

It actually doesn't matter who posted first because PA discussed their ideas for this comic a few days ago in their podcast. So they had it going first, unless CAD saved it up for a while too.

The CAD one was funny though.

Note: This is the first time this has <i>ever</i> happened. CAD being funnier than PA I mean.

The CAD one was pretty good, but the last panel kind of ruined it. "When the flood attacks" was totally an excellent joke.

I liked the PA one better though, imagining Master Chief saying the first panel is just too awesome.

Yeah, a Dynamic Level Editor would be even better. Battling while someone messed with the terrain. Cube had that... why can't Halo 3?

I got chills from some of those accounts, some of the imagery. Probably one of the best flash projects I've ever seen.

Edit against idiots: No ###### I know it isn't real, but it does a good job of tapping into that same mental state that you get from an episode of Band of Brothers, or something like that.
