Not able to find NS on steam

So I installed Half Life after I found it in a random jewel case at the bottom of my closet -_- Took me a day to find >.>
However, after I installed steam and NS I cannot play NS still. I don't know why I need Steam to play NS but I have NS installed and it doesn't show up on my Steam list. However, before I went to install NS it said I didn't have a valid copy of steam, which I did because I dled it from the Steam website O.o

Can anyone help me with this one?

You have to have steam installed, you have to have HL installed VIA STEAM, you have to have HL COMPLETELY installed (run it once).

So you mean to say, even though I have half life I have to buy it again...just to play ns...thats bull###### I already own half life, why the ###### should I buy it again >.>

Guess I will just wait for NS 2

Still retarded imo, should be able to use the cd you get when you bought half life on cd to use steam.
