I feel these fit into NS, how about you?
I stumbled across Evil's Quake 3 texture packs over at The Wadfather, and I think there are some great sci-fi textures in them, especially q3evil5.wad and q3evil6.wad.
I know it says we're supposed to use ns.wad as much as possible, but I really like these textures, I think they fit the space station theme perfectly well, and if ALL the maps use the same batch of textures, pretty soon we'll all get tired of them, same as rgula HL made us sll jaded about concrete bases long ago.
I invite the people on the mod staff, who know the most about NS, the world, and the theme and style we're going for in creating NS maps, to look at these textures and let me know if you think they're apropriate or not.
Oh, and here's a link to Evil's website where you can see previews of his texture packs without having to actually download anything or dig though the pile at Wadfather.
Assuming I observe all the other cavets like 4mb texture usage, correct WAD filename, and r_speeds, are there any objections to NS mapping that uses converted Q3 textures?

Gotta love that one hatch, though. And it's even better scaled down to 50%
I've adjusted some of the textures, more to experiment with what works, really, than for any use in maps. I've found that increasing brightness and especially contrast helps a lot. HL lights them up differently than Q3. I'll have to e-mail him and see if I can get proper official permission to edit them for HL usage...
I really need to develop my mapping skills further, to make the most of these sweet textures... I did manage to turn a jump pad into a spot forn the command console to sit, though. Looks pretty sweet.
They've already been CONVERTED, but editing them is specifically banned in the readme without prior permission. So things like changing the black spaces in grates to blue or tweaking the contrast and brightness require that you contact the author first. It's probably not a big deal, but it would be disrespectful to go against the readme's will, and you *gotta* respect a guy who puts out this kind of work!
I think maybe he was just in a hurry and didn't read my message all the way (you guys know how I love to ramble on) and I can't blame him for that. I asked a second time, specifically stating that I want permission to tweak them, not just use/convert them.
I agree that he seems like a pretty cool guy, I just want to get an explicit yes or no answer out of him, since the readmes say "No, unless you get permission first."
I'm gonna put it on a viewscreen in the ready room, LOL!
