<div class="IPBDescription">How often do you spread disease?</div>So suddenly one morning I find myself not being able to breath through my nose, not even moving whatever is clogged in there (eww). My mouth is dry as a James Bond joke and the bed feels incredibly cold all while at the same time having a headache and soar throat. Everything colder then 40 degrees feels like ice and you can't think/focus properly on anything, also you're shivering badly to keep any warmth, thus preventing any easy sleep. The next day I only slept 3-4 hours after shaking up enough heat, my throat is better but I still have a completely clogged nose, which is the worst since you don't taste anything. I've probably produced more snot then my own weight..where the hell does it all come from?

Anyhoo, I usually get sick once a year or once every second year with a similar cold, not too often me think.

So how often do you get sick and which disease is most common among fellow forumites?

I contracted bronchitis earlier this year from my gf, and it hung on for weeks. And I eat healthy, take vitamins, and drink gallons of water. For whatever reason/s my immune system must have been down.

Prior to that I can't remember the last time I was sick, honestly.

Little known fact: distance runners have a 6 times greater chance of contracting a communicable disease than one who doesn't. Seems despite their awesome cardiovascular fitness, distant running breaks down the immune system.

I'm about the same as you. When I was in college I got sick much more often, usually when I went home for a break. I tend to catch a cold spring/fall times when the temperature fluctuates a bit.

Worst thing I've ever had was pertussis. Nasty, non-stop hacking cough... lasted about a month.

Err, about your snot. Is it green, solid? You might have a sinus infection.

I rarely get ill. Maybe once a year tops.

one or 2 times a year I end up with some "ye gods, jut let me DIE!" thing. Generally lasts like 1 day and I am over it.

    However, I tend to have allergies or a cold for the res of the year <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

during infantry training I had bronchitis for about 2 and a half months. Every day I would cough up at least a cup of solid grey or neon yellow phlegm with the density of peanut butter.

It's both gelly like and running (guess it depends how long it has been stuck), but both are transluent in appearance.

As I mentioned before, loosing the sense of smell is the worst of all. I don't want to eat because of it, it just ruins the food so blatantly. I'd prefer having a hard time to swallow rather then loosing smell *sigh*.

I'm hoping it'll have blown over by tomorrow.

I get sick about as much as the average person, but I have horrible sinuses such that my nose is pretty much always runny. it 'runs' in my family (yuk yuk). Legend has it, my grandfather used to have snot icicles hanging from his nose after a long day of skiing.

I used to get sick about once a year. But a little over two years ago I found out about Emergen-C. Now I routinely get a 4.5 month supply of vitamin C in the course of a day or two.

    Haven't been sick since.

    That's the nastiest ###### I've ever read.

I don't get sick too often, maybe once every two years, but I get migraines that cause me to lose my vision.

The last time I got sick I had some strange breed of flu. It was awful, my knuckles and back felt very brittle and I would have to painfully crack them every ten minutes or so, and I constantly felt like I was going to pass out. It also did a number on my, err ... 'plumbing.' Very sore stomach and other problems too gross for a public forum. It was only really bad for a day, but some symptoms persisted for two weeks.
That wasn't the worst, though. When I was 11 or 12 I had a stomach flu that had me vomiting so much my throat bled. Lovely. Luckily for me, though, I only get sick once a year, and then usually a minor cold probably related to poor nutritional choices. I certainly could do with more vitamin C during the Winter.

You are to blame! Carriers never get sick themselves, but infest everyone else around them, you must have every single little virus stuffed somewhere, ready to attack and grow in new hosts.

Going from once a year to zero times a year for two years so far is not exactly overwhelming statistical evidence.

Agreed, but the stuff is tasty anyways.

Also, I only started Emergen-C about 2 years ago. I haven't been sick for almost 3.

My stomach is loud, *very* loud, for about 3 months of a year. It is made all the more embarassing because, despite what my avatar claims, I am actually fat, so everyone just thinks "lol fat guy stomach problems".

God knows what it is, but I wish it'd stop. Change of diet, drinking a lot more / lot less etc... don't do a thing. What's worse is when it happens during an exam, because people in a 3 desk radius can hear it. Which is highly distracting for everyone concerned.
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
I have a super loud stomach too! It's weird how even though I know a ton about Star Wars and you know nothing, and I weigh 120 lbs and you're a whale, that we have such similar stomachs.

Wow, so I weigh more than double you.

Which is coincidental, because I also know more than twice as much about Star Wars as you do.

Debilitating sickness is extremely rare for me (the last time I missed anything due to sickness was for a gallbladder removall...err...). Small colds generally do not phase me, it's difficult to get me sick enough that it's 'bad'. I'm also good about preventing snot and coughed-on mateirals from coming into contact with others, so it's rare that people around me get sick from me.

Masochist that I am, I get mild enjoyment from the different temperature sensitivity when sick. There's nothing quite like having the shivers at room temperature and plopping in bed, warming yourself up (...and then having the bed be too hot moments later). That hasn't happened in about 5 years or so now.

...Usually my sickness consists of a runny/stuffed nose switch-off and no other discernable effects (for me - usually my voice sound sick, but I almost never have an associated sore throat or headache for more than 12-24 hours)...

    Plus: no allergies.

I have a very strong immune system and typically only get sick one time a year, typically around the time it starts getting cold and the new flu bugs start going around (IE, now). After that, I typically do not get sick again until the same time next year. This is not a result of a clean lifestyle. In fact, I tend to be a rather messy person.

WARNING: This post is pretty disgusting.

I rarely ever get ill, but right now is a VERY strange exception. Apparently, I've somehow contracted Cellulitis, a bacterial infection of the skin. QUICK WARNING: DO NOT LOOK UP ANY PICTURES OF IT. It's really friggen disgusting.

This isn't really a spoiler, but it's pretty disgusting to read, so I thought I'd do this out of courtesy.

Cellulitis wasn't half as disgusting as I were prepared for, does it just look creepy or does it hurt/itch?

Impetigo, now that looks freaky, like the plague or something.

You all forget: Allergies > temp diseases
I can't be in a room with a lot of air born dust (dust mites) else I'll start sneezing and itch in my eyes until they're all red. Neither can I play with cats <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> or cows, the former being more painful.

    BEWARE THE FRESHERS FLU!

I drink most nights of the week so its hard to tell if im sick from a hangover, kebab, liver failure, or actauly sick. Mostly lasts a few hours but I get things like colds or sore throats for a week or two at times. I still blame the freshers, for ALL of that.
