<div class="IPBDescription">I'm an idiot!</div>So, I just bought a Samsung Blackjack smart phone (which of course I didn't even think to insure...). It's a nice phone.
I got it Wednesday, and now it's gone. It has been stolen (presumably).
I was at work. I'm a manager at a local movie theater. I was doing inventory for the night, and needed a calculator, well, my brand new phone had one built in, so I used that, and put it in my shirt pocket like an idiot.
10 minutes later, I'm sitting at the computer about to enter the inventory figures when I reach into my pants pocket to oogle my sexy phone, it wasn't there, then I recalled having put it in my shirt pocket. I quickly realized that I had misplaced it. So, I frantically run about the lobby, looking for my phone, checking the last place I remember seeing it, which was in the concession stand where I was doing inventory, it wasn't there, so I called it from the theater phone and had a few employees run about listening for the sound of its vibrating to no avail.
I try to repeat this process, however, this time, the phone doesn't ring, but rather I hear my voicemail. I try again a few times, but it appears the phone (which had a full charge last I checked) is powered off.
Well, I'm freaking out by this time, that was an expensive (uninsured) phone, but none the less, I finish my work, periodically calling my phone, hoping for an answer, but with no luck.
So, I arrive home, and call the local police departments non emergency number from my home phone. I was informed that unless I have concrete evidence that the phone was stolen, that there is nothing that can be done.
I'll be going in tomorrow (on my day off) to go through the surveillance tapes, and either finding out that my phone was indeed stolen, or that I lost it and am panicking over nothing.
Anyway, I need sympathy, or to be mocked, you decide, I'm very upset about this right now.

I used to misplace stuff all the time when I was lil' so I know how easy it is to have stuff vanish on you when you think you've put it somewhere relatively safe.
That said... I somehow keep losing hair ties in my room despite the fact it's not huge and there's not many places for them to be. Not quite the same as losing an expensive phone though ^^;
It's pretty cruddy that someone would thief your phone though. Everytime I lost stuff I seemed to luck out and have it found by someone really nice who'd either mail it to my house or hand it in to the nearest police/lost office :s
On the upside if you do find footage of it being yoinked on the cameras you have your proof for the police! :D
I can't imagine the mindset behind that. If I find something my first thought is always to try and return it or put it somewhere safe. Worst case is I'll leave it where it is thinking the person will be nearby and will no doubt be retracing their steps to find it.
Whatever temptation there might be to keep stuff I'm always aware of how upset I'd be if I had someone pinching my things if I dropped them :p

basically I have the same thoughts as Gem (And for much the same reason, I hate losing things, and I used to do it a lot).
The sad thing is that a cell is the easiest thing to return to the proper owner. You can generally just check the phone book and find the entry labeled 'home', 'mum', 'dad', or anything like that, call up and let them know you found it.
sorry mate.
oh and let me enter rant mode for a bit on 'insurance'.
Make SURE you know EXACTLY what and HOW the 'insurance' covers. A good number of them do NOT cover replacing lost/stolen phones (and often if they do it is with a refurb phone). If they do cover theft/loss you generaly do have to make a co pay of around $50.
Now, depending on the price of the phone (retail, not with a contract), and the price of the 'insurance' and the copay, it sometimes still isn't worth it.
PS: don't forget to call up and have your sim deactivated NOW!
again, sorry man.

You're one of the very few in the UK. Something like 80+% of people in Britain will pocket whatever they find. I can't remember the exact figure I haven't watched that episode of 8 out of 10 cats for yonks.
I'm going to go in soon and check over the surveillance footage and hopefully find something.
Oh yea, the phone in question:

Kiddin' I trust it is a fine cellphone.
I'd keep a phone like that on a chain or something.
I hope you get it back...
VIRGIN MOBILE > UR FAEC
bl by the way.
Anyway, I made a copy of the footage and gave it to the local police, but now there isn't much that can be done because I only have the one guy's name, and no address or phone number.
I've been trying to track him down, and I know the general area of where he lives, but I have not had any luck. He has a very common name, which makes it hard to find him.

Who made that interface/ui? Is it actually a windows supported phone or something?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It's the default UI, the phone runs Windows Mobile, it's a smart phone.
If the police don't do anything, you should. Be the law and drop kick someone.
do you care enough about the phone to call everyone in the phonebook with that last name asking for the person you suspect.. ?
There are no Mike or Michael Williams' listed, and I have narrowed the Williams' in my area down to about 6 or 7 listed numbers. But that's only the listed ones.
