Problems with Windows Live Messenger

All of this stems (for a fact) from my router - it's a Linksys WRT54GS, and originally it wouldn't allow me to connect or browse certain servers on multiplayer games. I got that problem figured out though, with creating a static IP and using port forwarding. But now on some servers that I join they're simply terribly laggy, as if I have tremendous amounts of packet loss. On top of all this, I'm trying to talk to a very good friend and MSN messenger keeps locking up every few minutes, and then eventually crashing.

Any idea whats going on?! ><
