Water and Fire Simulation

A simulation engine was created on a computer of water and fire. All 4 videos are computer generated and are not real life footage (Be warned: it looks very real)

EDIT: I hope games like NS will be able to use physics like that. Flamethrower anyone?

Methinks it'll be a looooong time before that stuff can be in videogames, but awesome nonetheless.

agreed, but it made me sexy sweaty watching those videos lol
Loved the fire, brilliant. Liquid stuff was nice, but still not "water" like. Closer to some kind of thick syrup. Mastering the white-water effect with liquids still seems to be outta reach...

They don't really simulate bubbling at all from what I can see.
As for bubbles, mainly if you want that you have to simulate the air as a fluid too. Then there's the interface tracking and just the whole extra volume... it can get pretty cpu intensive.

I don't imagine it will be in reach without a major leap forward in both processing power, and the way we think about modeling real life systems. You essentially have to go to level of molecules to simulate how air enters water and effects its flow and bubbling.
Still I think the current simulations are good enough for their purpose (essentially to not break the immersion of the game they are in).
Awesome. Something else to keep people from paying attention to piss-poor gameplay.

i wonder if this is goning to be programed into Halo 3 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Bioshock perhaps? Since the game is built around water. They also did claim that they had the best water simulations, which i highly doubt now, maybe for video games though.

For some reason, I think Abra said what he did for another reason than it fitting the scenery...
...
.......
So, well - Iam gonna go ahead and give you some more thinking time in the medium of a line of periods.

make that two.

I hope you all realise that these weren't rendered in realtime, or even close to it... It will be years and years before we see this stuff in video games...
