man some of you guys have no idea what you are talking about. OP, no LCDs are not up to spec with CRTs yet- especially to the level of your particular monitor! LCDs are still horribly laggy, their colors are inaccurate, and their scaling is horrible.

This really makes me wonder what LCDs people are using when they complain like this, because mine has no lag or ghosting at all and the colors look fine.

That's what I'm saying. My first LCD was crap because I was looking for a 'value' deal. After I got burned on that one I went straight for quality. Throw all the stats you want around, I can't perceive any delays or trails on my Dell 3007WFP.

As far as colors, there's no argument that LCD's can't display a true black. But they don't have any problems displaying any other color that a CRT can. They simply convert the colors along a different gamma curve.

lol. Its like making music- they don't make music on POS logitech surround sets lol they used flat response monitors. It all depends on what you want, quality or crap!

Like [WHO]Them said, it's not different colors, they just display things differently (also the black's different). An LCD is not crap.

Basicly what he said was true a few years back, and people are set in their ways and refuse to realize that they have been some major improvements.

since this is in the Off-Topic section . . .

TychoCelchuuu, I'm willing to bet your proclivity to and wealth of knowledge on Star Wars topics stems from an innate aspect of your personality that has been prominently displayed in this thread: the unquenchable need to have the last word and be the victor in all games of oneupsmanship.

    Just a thought.

Also it reminds me of Sick Boy from Trainspotting. Director Danny Boyle described it thusly:

"Then, through the late '80s in Britain, it (Trainspotting) began to mean anybody who was obsessive about something trivial, and part of that is drugs. It's a very male thing. Women, they know better. It was a way in which men would conquer an area of life by just knowing everything about all the Sean Connery films."

I love it when people get proven wrong then resort to insulting people to look like they're better than everyone else.

    "proven" "wrong"?

I love it when people only half-read a conversation and pick up specious cues from a certain posters attitude (in this case the cue that Tycho was "right", gotten from his haughty attitude that I just finished addressing).

Also, you assume I am biting back, licking my wounds. Again, as you said, "i love it when people" do that. It wasn't even his arguing with me that prompted my comments on him, it was how he talked to others.

Then PM him. Don't try and act all superior and try to publicly make someone look bad. You have a problem, PM him.

EDIT - At the end of the day, with a high quality, low refresh rate LCD monitor, you won't notice any ghosting at all.

    EDIT 2 - Snip.

As far as I'm concerned... It's the price. LCD is still noticeably more expensive than CRT. I didn't have a hard time picking at all, especially when (cost aside) the LCD vs. CRT values are still under debate.

A quick sweep of Newegg shows the prices to be about the same, depending on the brand and quality that you buy of course.

As an aside, I don't think I've ever been treated so badly by someone I've been trying to help <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> I'm not quite sure how much that says about me but I'm thinking it's pretty indicative of something hidden deep within ubermensch.

Really? I was under the impression that you need very high quality LCD to even match the performance of normal CRT.

Hm, I guess my next PC will have an LCD then.

PS: How did you do it? First you sold me a $25 book, now you sold me an LCD.

He infected your PC with a virus, that causes your mouse to emit an eletrical field, which stimulates your "believe tycho" nerve centre. It is basically the same technique they also use to sell people breast augumentations.

Yeah for a while LCDs were way behind CRTs unless you wanted to pay a million dollars, but nowadays they're drawing even in a lot of size categories. I actually prefer CRTs for everything except weight, but I have nothing against LCDs and my computer right now has 2 of them.
