FPS drops

Hi, my fps keeps dropping really low. It has done it before and I had to reinstall graphic drivers, anyone know why it does it? It's fine with CSS.

My specs are:

c2duo e6600
radeon x1950 pro
2gb ddr2 ram

Are you sure it's FPS and not network lag? A machine like that should have no trouble with the HL engine.

To tell if it's lag or FPS problems, use cl_showfps 1 in console (IIRC -- the actual command may vary a bit from that). If it feels choppy, but the fps number is OK, then it's lag.

To fix lag, read up on "rate, cl_updaterate, cl_cmdrate". A lot of counterstrike sites will have good info for the HL engine.

If you are having huge FPS drops, it's likely due to underpowered hardware, or you have some background process that occasionally steals all your CPU time.

Since most people have decent connections and NS is so old that most machines can run it easily, its probably a safe bet that most people's FPS drops are same as the one identified here:
