The Kharaa begin their first colony among unaware Shashnanii
Through deep space, a lone particle drifts. From thousands of kilometers away, a freighter is hurtling in its direction. The particle is a seed about the size of small crate, travelling only a fraction of the speed of the freighter. They hit tangentially, the seed shedding its coat and adhering to rear corner on the ship.

The seed hardens and begins to probe for leaks in the hull. A tendril prys between panels and goes flat through seams. It is guided by the heat inside, looking for that environment to survive. The first footings of infestation reach an inner deck through a console panel. The infestation spreads, finds condensation from the pipes below and soon reaches the cieling. Threads are let down and the starting of the hive has begun. Most of body mass is created concealed within the panels. The less conspicuous mebranes wait in the open and are filled by a complex vascular pump. The hive fills and produces its first spawn.

An automated cleaning bot comes into the room and inspects the half-formed hive and chemical blob growing on the floor. It's logic senses fail when it cannot resolve the inconsistency between biosigns and a bacterial hygeine issue. After a reboot, it decides the phenomena is a failure in its programming, decides to ignore the infestation and leaves.

The first gorge opens it's eyes, stretches its jaws and stands up. The rumble of engines mark South, the room opens to the NE with the hum of machinery beyond and a small vent is down through the grate in the floor. The gorge stands ready to explore and find food for the hive.

Chocolate, this adventure is for you to start. You can move around as you'd like, creating your own story or you can ask me to describe things and give you options. You spawn as a gorge an feel free to narrate up until finding the first resource node. There are no nanosludge outlets like the TSA possess. Instead the Shashnimyn resource nodes are in the form of nerve-ending power plugs in the floor, wall mounted food dispensers and other provisional outlets. The ship is techno-organic so you can describe whatever that means to you.

New players may start as Kharaa skulks in the hive room at any point during this game.
All spawns cost resource points. Skulks cost 1, Gorges 10, etc
Each story related post adds 2-5 hive resources. This is multiplied by the number of resource towers or critical areas held. Every Kharaa player uses the same resource pool.

The ship is about 150m long, 75m wide and 50m deep. It is three levels in total. The middle level is pictured here. The lower level is about a 1/3 the size of the main level, and mostly unused by Shashnimyn. The upper level is patchy, with rooms from the main level extending up into it and mostly corridors and maintenance systems. The main level is the primary habitation and working level for the Shashnimyn, although they stick towards the bow of the ship, especially on long trips, coming aft to check on things.

The map so far. The yellow signifies vents, and each grid is 3m x 3m. There is an RT in the first room N of the hive (which extends up to the next level), the large room at the bottom right is a hangar with a couple figthers, a shuttle and crates. The main hallway extends north about another 15m and is a wide open kill zone. The green rectangles are solar wings on the outside of the ship.

The thread title includes:
-the game; K-S
-the player races available; K, S, KS
-the adventure number; K1, K2, KS1, etc
-the name of the objective; Hesperiinae in this case
-the type of the objective; a small freighter in this case

Alright, I've read through this and began writing something. Its quite long, and hasn't been finished yet. I'll see if I can get it done for tomorrow. It seems to be pretty good for my first time, but yeah... well see...

    The Awakening
As the gorge begins to fully awaken from his spawning, a loud voice suddenly starts speaking in its head. The voice is a familiar sound, with the same volume and intensity as the sounds he was hearing during his awakening. The voice says in a clear, slightly angry tone “You are one of my minions. Do as you are told and remove these beings who roam my ship. Remember that this hive is mine; this room is mine; this whole place is mine, you are mine…”

As soon as the voice stopped speaking, the gorge suddenly had a surge of energy flowing through his veins. His eyes turned from a light yellow to a furious orange red. He began to move to the NE exit, carefully looking at each detail for anything recognizable. Everything was totally unusual, nothing like the countless jungles he’s been on before. The humming sound of the machine was nothing like the loud, terrifying roars of the animals in those jungles. Once he passed the first loud machine, the voice he heard earlier began to speak again. The gorge continued to walk while he heard the voice.

“For my colony to survive, I will need food to survive and thrive. I want you to find me a spot suitable for a resource tower to grow. You WILL not engage any life on this ship, and I have token precautions to make sure of it. Once you find a suitable spot, you must feed the tower until it matures. You then will explore the area for more food until you gather enough resources for another hive. Do not fail me my minion.”

Once the loud voice stopped, the gorge realized where he was. He had been walking all the time he was listening to the instructions and was now standing on a pipe about 30 metres off the ground. Panicking from fear of heights, he gives out a slightly loud screech and lets out a spit from the inside of his stomach. He loses his balance and begins plummeting towards the ground. Desperately trying to slow his fall, he begins shooting more spits in random directions. Right before impact, he closes his eyes and shoots one more spit into the ceiling.

10 seconds later he doesn’t feel the pain he usually does when he falls, and begins thinking he is dead. Then he opens his eyes to see just what really happened. The spits he’s been shooting were really webs. The random spits he shot off managed to form a web which broke his fall. He was now lying on the floor covered with semi-transparent white sticky stuff.

He gave a loud grunt before beginning to remove the webs off of him. Once the webs were off, he looked up to see something interesting. Before he could process what he was seeing, he had a flashback of his past experiences in the field.

He could see a Kharaa resource tower standing tall and making a sloshing sound. He then saw an empty resource node and a gorge nearby. The gorge begins doing some random noises and stares at the resource node. His eyes begin changing between the colour red and yellow while his rear end begins shaking slightly. Soon after, he lets out a slight humph and material begins coming out of his mouth. This yellow/green guew begins to cover the node and anything near it. The gorge then begins to feed it nutrients from his mouth, and the guew simultaneously begins to grow and take shape. Eventually, the gorge stopped feeding it, the newly built node started sloshing away and the gorge walked away. The flashback then abruptly ended, and the gorge now knew what to do.

The young gorge began to concentrate. The only thing he thought about was to get that material out of his mouth. His body started to heat up quickly, changing the intensity as his body tried to regulate the heat. The bacterium on his back began to move around with the heat changes and the gorges body felt like there were ants crawling on it. Eventually, he could feel the guew begin to crawl up his mouth, and in that instant the gorge spat to shove it all out.

The guew landed on everything in front of the gorge, whether it was the plug or not. In frustration, he let out a growl and let out a spray of gas. As soon as the spray hit the guew, the guew began to bunch up onto the plug and started multiplying in number. The gorge, seeing as this was a good thing, gave out a chuckle and continued heal spraying and feeding the tower. He did not look up at what progress he had because it took all his concentration and energy to construct the resource tower.

Once the gorge finished building the node, he looked at what he accomplished. He then let out a loud roar.

The thing he just built looked nothing like the node in the flashback. It had large mouth on the floor covering the two plugs. It had a large, stiff vertical body with three large sacs on the sides. There were 2 arms connecting the top of the tower and the ceiling, similar to the ones the hives have. Lastly there were tubes and arms connecting the tower to the screens nearby. A total 3 screens were covered, all connected to the plug via wires and other glowing objects the gorge could not comprehend.

Once the gorge was satisfied that the node was working as best it can and looks the prettiest it can, he continued along his way by going out towards the west exit of the small room.

I seriously doubt anyone has to make something as long as this, but I got carried away and made this. I hope you guys enjoy this! And I hope to see a lot of people interested too.

PS. It would be a good idea to advertise this on the off-topic forums, maybe people have wanted to play a FFRPG but because there hasn't been one for a long time, haven't seen this yet. Bah...

PPS. Although English is my first language, I'm not perfect at it. As so, there may be confusion in tenses and things might sound weird. Tell me if anything is completely odd and needs to be changed.

Cool, I'm glad you went with a long start. Okay, so to summarize your actions:
-you've built a resource tower which costs 15 but will gain you back resources as time passes.
-you perceive this hive consciousness as commanding
-you can use webs! What a skilled little gorgey you are, we only have one hive. So, I guess we have these options:
    1. You have chosen the webs as your first hive ability
    2. You can continue to use the webs in a non-combat manner but have the hive 1 ability
    3. Another suggestion
-NO HUMANS. Sorry, but I insist upon this. There would be consistency issues with the intricate knot of time I've planned out for humans to meet the Shashnimyn. Perhaps instead your memories are of low-atmosphere moon caves, or a standard technology race.

    Initial hive = 40 pts - 10 gorge - 15 res = 15 current

You walk along the west wall from the node, you pass the opening to a large central corridor. It's red light and long grates are less enticing than the warm smells ahead. The voice of the hive echoes "This is a rich environment if a resource tower comes that easily, be careful not to get discovered before we can protect ourselves."
There is a darker entrance across the central corridor that you might reach when you know it's safe.

You trundle back into the shadows and the moist air. Upon entering the room you see it is as tall as the pipes where you were, but the space is much larger. The room is like the thick swamps of your homeworld, but less goopy. The air is not thick with the soup of suspended bacteria and swirling tendrils. It buzzes quietly with the sound of a few insects. One of them lands on your hide. Its legs stick like glue and begins the slow process of absorption. The Jungle room extends deep to the NW, contains stairs up in the SW corner and you can see light to the NE.

What at first sounds like a nearby stream and wind rustling leaves turns out to be the gurgle of pipes and the breeze of fans. You look about and wonder why so much air & water are being cycled through this room. From within the soft jungle noises you hear a hard sound of something echoing on metal. The noise repeats rhythmically, getting louder, it could be something approaching...

Alright, I didn't know the no humans applied to flashbacks too, it shall be changed now

Seems this thread doesn't have much traffic, oh well. I'll see if I can cook up another continuation from what I've got so far. I'll make sure to refer to that map when I do write the continuation. Perhaps when people see the story and get into it they may start posting here.

And, for the explanation of the webs, I was given that ability from the start replacing my spit. The reason for this is because I'm directed to avoid combat at all costs, and since the bacterium doesn't know what lies ahead, I was given it as a precaution. I'll add that in too.

In another part of the ship, two Shashnimyn sit around a dismantled machine, cleaning its parts and reassembling it.
"How do you feel about these sleep shifts?"
"What do you mean? I'm just doing my work." The myn picks up a cog with a rag and wipes the grit from it.
"Yeah, but it's so eerily quiet when there's only three of us awake at any one time."
"Space is pretty quiet in general I find."
"Pfft" he sticks his tongue out at the other myn and inserts a tuning bar into the machine. "Maybe it's the anticipation that gets me, having to wait so long between our landings. I'm left in a state of uncertainty."
The other myn snugs the cog in amongst others. "I think you're just lonely, we've been at this business for too long. Let's get this thing finished and then go spar in the hangar"

The third sleep shift maintenance worker was walking around doing systems checks. Passing through the security doors from the forward sector, locking their heavy mechanisms behind him, he began to check on the panels and access points in a well-rehearsed routine.

Everything seemed pretty much normal. The energy usages betrayed the usual amount of leakage, the major source of them was already being repaired by the others. The environmental system was working a little harder than normal, so he headed towards the jungle room to check the main terminal.

Passing through the doorway, he stood for a moment, the red lights always made him momentarily blind in the jungle room. He'd often brought this up as a security concern, but almost all of the crew knew the ship well enough to walk it blindfolded, and no one expected to be boarded anyways.

The gorge shuffles behind the cover of a tree trunk and inspects the figure who just arrived. He is more than 6 feet tall, but much slimmer than a Fade. His lower legs bend in a Z shape, the extra joint helpful for leaping and dodging. In his hands he holds a bone rectangle, with a glowing screen like those on the wall. His skin is a tan grey and his facial features craggy and dinosaurian. He is simply clothed, open shorts and a wrapped shirt of crimson. You hold very still, not wanting to break the silence. The figure turns from you and walks a few paces to plug a wire into the wall.

I haven't created the maps for upstairs or downstairs yet, I'll let others describe them of whatever we want. The second hive location can be on one of those floors once there is enough infestation.

I'm not worried about the traffic in this thread. I just posted in OT and will keep this story going as a project regardless.

    The Insight
The gorge stands still while the figure does some intricate movement with his hands. He first plugged the wire in, and then he opened a large compartment on the side of it and began rummaging through it. He picked out a small, bright object out of the compartment and shoved it into a slot nearby. The gorge heard a distant hum, and the large figure began stepping out of the room.

The gorge, relieved from the fact that he is no longer inches from death, gave a loud sigh and lied down on the floor. He looked up to see the first real look of the area around him. There was a large forest buzzing with life everywhere around him. There were large, colourful trees with silk like leaves as far as the eye can see, and various smaller plants all around. He could see a small moth flying past the closest tree only to be swallowed whole by a larger flying, brown and blue fish like bird. There were small, dirt covered pathways going in every direction. The gorge, felling at home in this forest, began to walk down the central path towards the middle of the forest.

The young gorge was amazed at the tranquility of the area. The moist dirt under his feet felt southing compared to the hard metallic floors in the rest of the ship. The sun in the sky was a crisp yellow-white light which was the best thing he saw in a long time. It was like the small, tentacle shaped plant’s light that is on his home planet, only this felt better and unique.

The gorge had a great time until that loud voice began to speak again. “You must plant a sensory chamber in the area to alert me of any threats nearby. I sense these other beings on my ship are being alerted by our presence, and this sensory chamber will help keep me hidden from these beings for longer.”

Right then the gorge had another flashback. He saw a mature gorge secreting a similar gue to the one he used to grow the Resource Tower. This was thicker and was in a smaller quantity. The old gorge began to feed the chamber from his mouth, without hesitation like he’s made a million of them before. After a very short while, the gorge stopped feeding the chamber, the chamber stood up tall and both the gorge and the chamber slowly faded away.

The flashback then ended, and the young gorge began to replicate the flashback. He secreted the gue, and began feeding the gue a thick yellow-white liquid. Halfway during the process, he could hear the foot steps of the creature he saw earlier. Sensing a strong sense of fear, he immediately stopped the feeding and sped away in the opposite direction.

Not looking where he was going, he immediately ran straight into a large, rough textured tree. The gorge, losing balance from the impact, fell back a few centimetres and flipped upside down on his back. Without the strength to flip over and the foot steps getting louder and louder, he gave out a loud cry and remained as motionless as the tree.

The myn technician plugged his handheld unit into the jungle room terminal and confirmed the previous results. The environmental systems were trying to compensate for a strong bacterial infection. This was a bit odd, considering most infections happened soon after station or planetside contact, and they'd been in deep space for years. He just chalked it up to a new mutated strain and pulled out an innoculation crystal. He inserted this into the modular input and was confident its subroutines would analyze and address the problem.

As he was walking out of the room, he heard an atypical noise over the hum of the cycling env systems. He cocked his head to the side and listened for a moment more, but then decided it was nothing and went to check on his workmates. They were not in the machine room so he pinged them.

Moments later, panting a voice replied "Hello, what's the situation?"
"I could ask you the same" the technician said with a touch of bitterness in his voice, "Your tools are all over this room and the work's not finished."
"We're sparring in the lower hangar, Nuetabo was going loopy from all this isolation" a muted 'Hey!' could be heard in the background. "We'll come back to finish the job in a little while."
"Sure, whatever. I guess this isn't an emergency or anything. I'll finish off my rounds, but don't expect me to help"
"Roger that, out" the crashing sounds of a duel started for a few seconds before the connection shut itself off.

The technician then headed towards the aft engineering room. Leaving the central corridor into the aft passages, he heard a loud cry of an animal from the jungle. He could not be hearing things now. Warily, he entered the jungle room again. In the darkness, something blue glinted, and he approached it with the readiness to srping in to combat. On the floor was a limp blue globe, nestled in a pile of shapeless goo. The globe was like a crystal ball, enchanting to look at, showing a depth greater than possible.

This was no mutated bacterial colony, this was a xenoform! He punched in an alert to summon cleaner bots and grabbed his extinguisher.

The hive pulsed, the hivesight granted by the half formed tower was still enough to recognize a threat. With a grumble and a push, it laid the skulk form it had been readying beneath it.

Suddenly a marine appears out of nowhere. He shoots you in the face then stabs you. You die. The marines proceed to your hive. You get spawn camped for 10 minutes. You rage. You leave the server. The marines win.
