<div class="IPBDescription">And I'm going to get it right...</div>Hey

I don't usually post here, but I decided why not for this reason I'm going to say.

I'm going to buy a mic finally, so I can actually comm a game without typing 6000 words per minute. But because I'm not the greatest of shoppers, I could use some help.

I'd like to know what makes a good mic. I've done some research before, but that was a long time ago. I remember hearing about Headset Frequency Response, Microphone Frequency Response, Microphone Impedance, Headset Impedance but I'm not sure what they mean.

I'd just like to know what would be a good brand or what should I be looking for, because most of the results on Google don't turn up useful stuff or get complicated <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

PS: I'd like to listen to music too, and keep it in the $30 range.

this is like the least complicated purchase you could make. When you go to any store the choice is between like 3 products. Pick one and use it.

I got some crappy 13 dollar headphones that came with a mic that works okay...

If you want really cracking quality the only difference will be getting a real radio broadcast quality mic those are insane for sound quality. The headsets for VOIP look decent, check out amperordirect... They will give you 10 percent off for making a account which just needs a e mail (mailinator FTW) so you can get a couple bucks off a headset.

Those are headset mics, you can also go stand alone if you desire. I don't view a mic as a complicated purchase...

I have a tiny little mic, one of the ones designed to clip on to your top. I've had it for years, and I never used it, simply because I prefered headsets. But then the mic broke on my headset, and in desperation I taped this mic onto the mic boom of the headset, and it's the best mic I've ever used. It's awesome and clear etc...

I have no idea how much it cost or where I bought it. When I dug it out of storage it was just in a clear plastic bag. It has "Labtec LVA7313" written on it.

Plantronics Audio 90 headset is by far the best i've ever had. It's cheap, sounds great, yes even for listening to music and the mic is very good.

I've had three Plantronics headsets, and every single one of them has so far broken for no reason at all. With the first one, the right earphone suddenly stopped working. Seconds set, right ear phone had a loose connection. Third one, the mic stopped working. In all three cases they just stopped working from one day to the next. Yesterday they worked, today they're broken.

Actually I could use a new mic too. I still have the mic that came with my dell. In fact, it and the master HD are the only parts left from the dell. I would like a headset but I all ready have an awesome pair of headphones and I could never give them up. Any reccomendations for a standalone clip on style mic?

I am also looking for the perfect mic. Personally I've tried many single-ear headsets and never been happy with one for pc.

However I've been very happy with my <a href="http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802280" target="_blank">Plantronics X30 Headset for XBox live</a>
    <img src="http://www.ebgames.com/common/images/lbox/802280b.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

So I bought some of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/2-5mm-Mobile-Headset-Pc-Converter/dp/B000IZCUTQ/ref=sr_1_1/103-3486739-9651036?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1175572915&sr=8-1" target="_blank">These cellphone headset adapters for PC</a>

And hopefully everything will work out.

I never end up using the headphone portion of the headsets because I absolutely love my 5.1 surround speaker setup. So I always need something that's not going to block up my ear much.

Thanks for all the recommendations, I've found what I want. It was the last in the store <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />, from the company Altec Lansing. Not great earphones, but I prefer my speakers for gaming anyway (it kinda feels wierd when you got 5 skulks bitting to your left and you cant hear anything on the right). I find I don't really use it that much, except for commanding, text is so much more reliable.
