Hey, it's a sport game, but it's the beginning.
Sonic wins all running event, but Mario wins all the rest. We're talking professional football, tennis, golf, basketball here <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    meh, I never really liked sonic as much as mario.

    This is more of an indirect face off anyway - It's not like they're mortal enemies.

    I am actually kinda surprised that this is the first time they are both in the the same game. SEGA stopped making consoles a decently long time ago (and started releasing Sonic games on Nintendo systems shortly there after).

    But I can't think of any titles that have them both....

    I wonder if Sonic et all will show up in Smash Bros (Brawl or latter)....

    Oh, and I will defend the sonic games, I always liked them (the normal sonic side scrollers that is). Sure they are not Mario, but they are still fun.

    Also this game looks like it isn't a mario or sonic game, but instead yet another Mario Sports game (ala strikers, tennis, etc etc). Admittedly I do like the Mario sports games. Probably worth a rent when it comes out.

    Now to comment on both games icons (in their prime) which basically was before all the 3d shizzle happened.

    Sonic games could do most things Mario could and have other things as well like round surfaces. However Mario games compensated with better control of the player, where in Sonic games you dash along at mind boggling speeds and get annoyed when you don't have enough speed to get up a certain hill. Mario took the safe route of creating levels which are basically build out of blocks.

    I say both games have their pros and cons:

    Mario:
    - simple block like levels
    + puzzles and mini games (well at least @ smb3+)
    + good character control at all speeds
    + With each new mario game (smb 1-3 and world) come with great new concepts

    Sonic:
    + big and complex levels
    + good control at high speed
    - bad control at lower speeds (kind of compensated with the spindash thingy)
    - In essence Sonic games stay the same, with a few new additions like characters and weapons
    --> Sonic was better then SMB 1-3 tech wise, but World finally cought up with it

    Overall:
    Play a few levels encounter a boss, which has been a good formula for platformers. Both of the Icons execute this perfectly

    Just looking at it tech wise, since going into story lines would be silly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    Few people hate on the old sidescrolling sonic games, albeit I found that they were not as good as I remembered when I replayed them recently. Almost all of the hate is directed at the recent 3D incarnations, with a new character in every game.

    there was just always something fun about going at ludicris speeds. I never bothered with trying to colelct stuff, I jsut tried to play as fast as I could <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    The speed wasn't even that fast.

    Sonic's a terrible series.

    They'll work for free, but there's usually a <a href="http://www.askaninja.com/news/2006/01/08/ask-a-ninja-question-4-hiring-a-ninja" target="_blank">form</a> to fill in.
