<div class="IPBDescription">blending co and ns</div>a few people thought this was a good idea i came up with, so i believe it would be worth explaining it here to see if other people agree..
I understand completely the complications which would come of designing this new structure, but because both of these current ways exist in ns, it may be a little easier to blend than other ways possible..
This i dont think will work for marines, however i feel it could work extremely well for the alien side and will encourage more players to play ns_ maps rather than co_ and possibly count to more teamwork of the players.
i would like to see a blend of the point/res systems of both ns and co.
Having everyone gain points by kills instead of res simaler to co, every new alien begins with 1 point towards gorging, when you gorge you will have access to the res pool from res towers.
this would work for many reasons
- gorges will have an easier time saving for the hive and building the chambers and offence chambers which are crucial for the survival of the team.
- players will nolonger "res ######" when in other class forms like the fade/onos
- teamwork is now easier as you can have a primary gorge and not having to rely on some random to have enough to "hopefully" put up the hive (in most cases they fade instead of hive)
- there is more res avaliable to the gorge to build offence chambers to defend primary areas like res nodes and hives. even creating outposts faster for group attacks against marine key points.
the recourse pool will build over time, when a player uses a point to gorge they are given 15 res instantly, in order to prevent noob players from wasting the res in the pool so other gorges cant use there will be a timer. If you are gorge for a certain period of time, the res will flow faster than when another player gorges.
eg-
-player1 goes gorge and gains 15 res, player1 builds a recourse chamber
-player1 decides to be the primary gorge and begins saving for a hive, gaining 1 res per 15-20 seconds.
-after 1 minutes the res now ticks towards player1 every 8-10 seconds
-after 5 minutes the res now flows towards player1 at 2 res per 5 seconds
this is a promotional timer, depending on the time you spend as a gorge will depend you status towards the res pool, in the beginning your a temp gorge, but after 2 mins you are considered a primary gorge. There can only be up to 2 primary gorges at a time, when the primary gorge dies, the third gorge in line will then become primary until they either gestate to another life form or die also.
this will prevent noob players who dont know much about gorges or players who want to be "morons" and ruin the game from doing so.
to prevent players from abusing the 15res everytime you gorge there should be a 2 min timer. if you gorge and build a res, and go back to skulk, if you gorge again within the 2 minutes, you will not gain 15 res, but instead only gain 1 point per 15-20 seconds. if you stay gorge in those 2 minutes, you still wont be awared 15 res unless you go out of form and then wait another 2 minutes to get the instant 15 res.
while gorges have access to the res pool, skulks/fades/lerks/onos have acess to a point system that like co, being able to use points to upgrade towards chamber abilities or higher life forms.
while this can be very rewarding having this ability i believe the same rules for chamber upgrades in ns apply to this new system, only one upgrade per chamber. this can be debatable to having possibly an extra booster where you spend 5 points for 1 extra upgrade in defence/movement/sensory, but you can only have 2 upgrades in one of the three, not two in each.
eg-
-skulk gains celerity with 1 point
-skulk gains carapace with 1 point
-skulk gains scent of fear with 1 point
-skulk gains andrenaline with 5 points
-skulk can no longer upgrade unless skulk dies or evolves to another life form to reset the point system
although this would work extremely well, it may be needed to add a degenerative to prevent players from instantly onosing/upgrading when they die..
eg-
-skulk spends 3 points to fade
-skulk attacks marines
-skulk dies and loses 1-2 points for respawn costs
if a skulk does not go to a higher life form, they may not lose their points, however lifeforms like fade/lerk/onos may due to being a higher rank, you need to regain this rank by killing to earn it back.
although the point system will work great for fighting life forms, the gorge on the other hand can gain upgrades to chambers using res instead of points, however, the gorge cannot have the bonus second ability from a chamber, and whilst in the form of a gorge, the ability to gain points from kills is alot slower and harder.
eg-
-skulk gains .5 points from killing marine
-gorge gains .08 points from killing marine
this will prevent players from abusing the gorge to gain points faster with spamming oc's etc to try and go onos faster than anyone else, the point game system will make it slightly challenging to gain points but balances out the issue of res gain and players being less likely to temp.
players who temp could regain 95% of their points back so they can continue battling, yet also temping to contribute towards the team.

Also, the whole having to spend points for upgrades that were previously free sounds iffy. The learning curve is high enough as it is.
I like the idea of saving res for the gorgies, and the idea of prioritizing where the res goes is also very nice. But, Gorges should not get such a low point count for kills. It should be something like .08 points for an OC kill and 1 point for a spit kill.

lol i musnt have noticed that upgrading with chambers is now free. i guess if thats the case then maybe using points to upgrade wont be required then.. but it would be alot harder to code it so you can have one extra ability if you cant put a price on it..
I wonder if the same concept could apply to marines? commander would still do research to unlock weapons - but marines would "summon" them like in combat? although its not really need for marines.
