Marine Individual Weapon Customization

<div class="IPBDescription">(not personal customization like the other topic)</div>Allow marine commanders to research different types of weapon attachments for marines, similar to chamber type for the alien side. Only one attachment may be used at a time, and can only be swapped out for another attachment upon death. As for a few examples of branches and different upgrades within that branch...

<u>Intelligence Attachments:</u> <i>(able to be attached to one weapon in the marine's inventory)</i>
<b>Probe:</b> A one-time-use (refill only available at armory) probe that acts as a marine version of parasite.
<b>Sticky Camera:</b> A one-time-use (refill only available at armory) camera that sticks to its shot location. The camera is X% cloaked and can be monitored by marines and commanders alike. It may be destroyed by the commander at a whim or aliens through force. Marines <u>cannot</u> destroy their own, or other marines' cameras.

<u>Offensive Attachments:</u> <i>(able to be attached to one weapon in the marine's inventory)</i>
<b>Accelerative:</b> A one-time-use (refill only available at armory, refill on a two minute cooldown) weapon accelerent that quickens the firing rate of the marine by X% over Y seconds.
<b>Incendiary grease:</b> A one-time-use (refill only available at armory, refill on a two minute cooldown) that increases the damage done by the marine's weapon by X%.

<u>Defensive Attachments:</u> <i>(able to be attached to one weapon in the marine's inventory)</i>
<b>Stem Cell Injectent:</b> A one-time-use (refill only available at armory) item that restores X% of the marine's health for Y seconds. Effect is canceled upon taking two consecutive instances of damage.
<b>Nano-bot Injectent:</b> A one time use (refill only available at armory, refill on a one minute cooldown) injectent that restores X% of target structure's health over Y seconds.

<i>(Do note that the branches and individual attachments are merely examples - they do not represent the idea itself. The broad idea of branched attachments is the main focus)</i>

The branches of attachment could be decided by the commander early game, and only one attachment choice would be allowed. However, the commander could abandon his current attachment choice, and choose a new attachment choice after three minutes pass, should he change his mind. I believe this would broaden the marine's gameplay and add a twist to each game.

I like all the ideas except for probe. Marine already have MT, and the Alien and Marine teams are supposed to be different. Having the teams be exactly the same takes out half the fun <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

I agree with pikmin about the probe. Also instead of having a camera, you could have it as a short range observatory that lets out a ping every X seconds and is easily destroyed by one hit (maybe even by a parasite too.) That might be quite nifty.

i think a deployable camera could be cool, not as a weapon attachment but as a general item.

Nice idea, not so sure on the examples you've got there though. How about an accuracy increase (cone of fire reducer), increased clip size, or faster reload for passive variants. That being said activated secondaries are more interesting for the marines. What about a bolt/spear projectile of some sort that can be shot to do massive knockback to an alien, a bayonet/chain blade attached to the gun, or another gun barrel to shoot.

I've got some of my own ideas relating to marine branching, but more building based, i'll post them later.

Here's a few I came up with....Unlike the categories, these are weapon-specific upgrades that would have to be purchased by the commander and handed out once researched for a cost. (lost if the marine dies, unless his weapon is picked up by an ally.)

    Knife - none
Pistol - Electrified bullets - deals extra damage per shot, and slows the alien slightly.
LMG - Clip size increase, has the ability to launch hand grenades (if available, max 2 per life).
Shotgun - Double-barreled, anyone? Also, perhaps the possibility of loading 2 ammo at a time instead of 1.
HMG - slightly more accurate, bayonet attached on the front (can be used during reload). (thanks to N_3 for the bayonet idea!)
Grenade Launcher: grenades detonate on impact OR grenades leave small fires, like napalm, after detonation.

you cant really use a bayonet while reloading :s
i was thinking more along the lines of halo, where you can quickly just swing your weapon as melee instead of spending the time switching to knife then slashing etc, it's something rather skilled players could use against a skulk leaping at them. chain blades from like wh40k are cooler tho <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

not sure where to suggest this but i will here i guess...
you might already have this in the game but what about a melee attack with rifles, pistols, etc, maybe not to do dmg but a stun/daze/knockback?

oh and have a special chuck norris roundhouse kick upgrade! how sick would that be roundhouse kick a skulk right in the face!

Don't agree with some of the specific ideas (a camera in a fast paced game like NS?), but I like it overall. Anything that allows different strats gets two thumbs up from me.

Instead of camera's, night vision or flash light's, which illuminates cloaked aliens or flash light's which blind everyone (mainly to blind aliens but also noobs might miss use) so screen darkens except for light source which just becomes very bright. (the last could be cool if a line of marines walk out shinning the lights at an alien who would basicaly freeze because the screen went so dark, and it is slightly realistic which is cool) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Sure you can use a bayonet while reloading!

    -Marine starts to reload
-Alien comes around the corner to bite marine
-Marine pauses for a moment and jabs the blade into the face of the alien
    -Marine finishes reloading

Corsair, try to read the posts before posting yourself. We're talking upgrades for weapons, not the marines themselves.

UU1nTer, if I'm right in understanding your post (which was fairly difficult)...you're suggesting a scan area replacement thing, as well as room darkener and flashlight built into one? The aliens, I don't think, would freeze in place like a deer looking into headlights. They'd be more likely to charge and bite.
