Music during loading times

<div class="IPBDescription">Custom servers do it, why can't we?</div>If you've played a Source game on a low end computer, you know how it can take quite a while for that map to load and the server to connect. Not to mention how you can't exit out of that damn loading window until it refreshes. What I propose to do is add some loading music to help make the waiting a little easier. I love it when servers do it, and listening to the menu theme while the game is loads is quite nice too(To do that, you have to connect to a server with steam's out of game server browser. The game won't stop playing the music while you're connecting <3).

I'm not exactly sure <i>how</i> custom servers do it, but I'm sure there must be way to add loading music in. My personal guess is that they stream it. And if loading music is some sort of server side option, why not put the music in the server clients and game clients and just give the servers an option on whether to use default or custom music? If the music were already loaded, it wouldn't put any extra strain on the server.

Now, if it's a client side option, just give people the option to customize their soundtracks and I'll be happy.

loading music off the custom server is probably whats making the join time so long. also it would interfere with your own music playing.

Personally I HATE the way Nsgame forces me to download their crappy music extending my loading time to join the servers.

I want it removed forever. The same for Custom sounds, VOX requests and ambience which have no connection to maps. I have no ###### interest of hearing "*SsHhcrk* god..damnit where th- *Crk* -at ammunition request *chrk*" instead of the commonly used yell.

Make steam play music from your personal music folder instead of forcing me to wait longer downloading stuff like listed above.

You don't see what I'm getting at. I'm saying give clients and servers the same music, and give servers the option to play that music during loading times. No downloading of music required.

Also, my loading times are <b>only</b> long on Source games and I've never played a server on source that played music. I'm 100% sure downloading music isn't why my connection speed takes 30-60 seconds as opposed to the 5 seconds of Goldsrc games.

Exactly what you proposed, but in different words.

Also, if you actually read my post, you would have seen that part I just described about how you could have official music that both the server and client have. You don't need to download any music if you already have it.

...uhh... ns won't force you to download the music- the music is already on your computer if you installed the game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    And this is a great idea!!! keep it up folks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

As another idea, lets make the loading screen less boring to look at. Each map could have a sideshow of screen shots while loading, or you could have back story on the map. Think BF2's loading screen. Dystopia shows that the loading screen is editable, but how editable is it? You could easily do a BF2/142 type loading screen, just add some screen shots and give a back story. Hey, why not make each map have a customizable loading screen that the mapper can work on? He can decide whether to have default or custom music, and be able to mess with the loading screen to make it look however he wants it to.

Interesting idea... I'll check up later to see how it develops before giving opinions and precise feedback.

    Good idea but I would only hear about 15 seconds of the music <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

No thanks. If I want music, I'm more then capable of hitting "play" in winamp. Having custom music just interferes with whatever I'm listening to already.

1.) Features can have off buttons, you know

2.) Minimizing Source games can be a ***** for us without $1000+ computers.

I think the idea was to have a ingame player to play your OWN music during load times.

An AMXX plugin exists which allows clients to listen to music already filed in valve/media while downloading custom content.

More details available on the modNS Community Forums <a href="http://www.nsmod.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3550" target="_blank">here</a>.

Still, might someone explain to me why the Alien vs Predator Alien wound sound is implemented and the
"*SsHhcrk* god..damnit where th- *Crk* -at ammunition request *chrk*" sound. how did that get implemented in the game? Where did it come from? when i host servers on LANs the sound is still there! How to remove for ever?

For a load animation, how about rotating alien models with a list of stats about them? Like what they did in Starcraft's menus when you mouseover.
