The one option I would love is to be able to disable particle effect, it looks great and all, but on a low end computer like mine, the FPS drops drastically.
Other mods I get 50-60 FPS, in NS I get roughly 30 but when I get close to one of those marine portals with the particle effect, it drops to 4 FPS.
(I know I say particle effect in general, but thats the only one I've had that affects me so badly so far)

Maybe someone could tell me if it's possible to change the model or something for that item so it doesnt use that effect?

you must have an old video card if you run HL with only 30 fps...
are you sure you're in OpenGL mode?

it just depends on the coder to remove the particles, but i wouldn't advise you to remove them cause they can serve the gameplay. I'm new to NS so i don't know each map, but you can have something like flames, fires, blasts with particles and if you don't see them you'll get hurt without any knoweldge of what's happenning... (i'm also a mod coder - the situation described (flames, fires...) are in my mod (a mapper loves hurting the player lol) and i won't make such a command)... but in NS i haven't seen flames for the moment. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Even a basic GeForce 2 can run HL at 1600*1200 with no problem so thats a bit strange...

Yes I am in OpenGL, it is an old card but my low FPS isn't what I'm complaining about. I don't mind playing at 30FPS, but it doesn't stay like that. Also, as I said in my previous post, it's not HL its just the mod because of the large maps and such.
I've checked the manual to remind me of the name of what I was speaking about and its the Phase Gate that gives me the problem. All other steam and stuff on the maps doesn't affect the FPS, or at least not to such an extent. (I think before release it was said stuff like steam and drips would be created by the particle effect, so I guess it's not the actual particle effect that affects my FPS, only the Phase Gate)

Anyway, in responce. So far all particle effect is used for is addition to feeling, just to make things look good. Well a lot of people can do without eye candy in exchange for being able to play a good game, same goes for me. Maybe even if there are things like fire that you'd need to see, instead of disabling it make an option to use particle effect or the way that TFC's flamethrower works.
