Finally, even though I still don't know what it's about it looks fun. Open Ended FPS just sounds great.

Keep in mind it's going to be almost nothing like the epic game you were expecting a few years ago. Refer to the new lead designer's interviews.

    Lol Duke Nukem Forever.

Stalker looks fairly ok though, I'll probably pick it up, although my computer will cry.

Well I dabbled in the MP beta and really found it lackluster so far. They basically removed all RPG elements from the game making it just an open ended shooter. Heck, I bet GTA even has more RPG in it now. I'm worried about it.

While I'm a sceptic myself, I agree. MP is hardly an indication of the RPG elements.

Shame they let some of the realism go, at least as far as i remember, things like eating and so on, also it was restricted in size somewhat compared to how it worked before. Originally it wasn't going to have loading zones, but now it does, but based on the MP beta which i've been playing a bit, it's going to shape into something pretty fun.

In all interviews and previews, they have specifically stated. There is no RPG elements. There are no stats you upgrade. A few previews said doing side missions were almost pointless since you didn't need to upgrade at all and the only payoff was ammo or the like. Really makes me sad.

Crappy parts: loading screens (~10 areas, ~1 min run average between areas if you go straight), can't see one part from another (as in, if you climb atop a high building, you can't see the stuff in another area).

At least for as far as I've read. I used to be interested, but a vid of someone playing it in my gaming mag put me off :/

i read that they are removing the obvious rpg elements but adding in more shooteresque rpg elements, like upgrading your weapons and armor.

Good, that would have been very dull and stupid. Though the load zones aren't too cool and the eating/sleeping should have still been in.

It was never going to have stat points. all the took away was vehicles but they left the code in (to my knowledge) the proper need to eat and they took out the AI stalkers completing the game before you. They didn't take the stuff out for spite. if it's a better game for it then so what.

When the new lead designer arrived they had to cut, change or swap a lot of the stuff to release the game sometime in the next two years. You should read the interviews before attacking me for knowing 'nothing', you'll just come off as a ######. ######.

Except I didn't say anything about the MP Beta, I said that the game is going to be vastly different from the epic game they were expecting based on the information and hype released years ago, before the current director signed on.

And I still can't believe tw-at is a 'swear word'.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->It's not often that constantly delayed games live up to the hype that builds over years of waiting, but S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl certainly has the potential. The dreariness of a burnt out, post-apocalyptic environment; the necessity to loot the bodies of friends in order to survive; and the realization that a handful of bullets and a protein bar are worth more than any amount of money are feelings I haven't experienced since playing Fallout. After spending a significant amount of time with the single player beta of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I can tell you that the Zone is a very fun place to be. The Zone is the area where you begin your journey as the "marked one," signified by a tattoo on your arm. Under the service of a merchant, after your body is found amid several not-so-alive ones, you're asked to use your skills as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to benefit your savior, a trader dealing more in information than any material goods. If you help him, he'll feel obligated to provide you with information on the last known mission you were on before you fell victim to amnesia. With no real alternative, I accepted his generous proposal, resigning myself to playing errand boy. My assignment: retrieve a pen drive from an operative whose location is currently unknown.

I got my first real idea of just how massive S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s world is after I stepped out of the trader's underground shelter and into the middle of a dilapidated camp of gun-toting survivors. The overcast skies rumbled with thunder and stretched into the distance as far as I could see. Shoddy roadways leading out of the campsite spread out in different directions, sometimes ending abruptly as stark wilderness devoured them. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s world is huge, and I spent a great deal of my time just running around exploring and doing side quests.

A bit overwhelmed by the magnitude of the land before me, I whipped out my PDA to decide where I should go first. I'd been assigned to speak with one of the higher-ups in the camp, "Wolf," to learn more about the location of the man who has the pen drive, so I opened my quest log to get information on where I should start looking. Quests in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are laid out clearly and distinctly: each segment of a quest is bullet-pointed for your convenience, allowing you to look ahead and see what you'll need to do for the length of an entire quest, not just the current part. By clicking a tiny radar button next your current objective's bullet point, the map will zoom in on where you need to be to accomplish your current goal. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Ugh... The atmosphere sounds great and the scope is amazing, but I'm getting the worrying feeling that it's going to be a massive walking-around game fuelled by 'fetch, kill, deliver' quests.

Anyway, I don't think Stalker can live up to its initial hype, no matter how awesome it is. It's been in development for so long and had so many "omg it's gonna revolutionise stuff" previews etc... that the only way it can't disappoint anyone is by giving the player a free, hot ###### with each copy.

Iggy insists that STALKER will be bad because it took so long to release. Of course, he also thinks that no one will use PCs anymore "within a few years", and will instead use windows on a mac.

In other words, what I am trying to say is this game will own your pants off. Get it or I will abuse my IRC mod privlages to ban your entire famliy beyond the bounds of time and space.

Le sigh, why is there no such great games anymore? That game was awesome from start to finish. If there was ever such a thing is an artistic game, I would so vote for Torment.

But anyways, I will get Stalker no mather what. It's not like there is any other good games out. (C&C or SC don't count for me, as I'm not a big RTS fan.)
