I hope that combat will not be included in NS2. It's hard to even find a classic server now, combat is like ADHD Counter-Strike whit new weapons. I just simply hate it, it's the worst game mode i've ever played in any MP game and it's killing the classic NS.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is exactly why Combat needs to be included with NS2. Personally i want NS2 to make as much money as possible, and since more than half the fan base places Combat rather than NS it's fairly obvious (from my stand point) that not including combat will hurt Charlies wallet rather fiercely.

To be honest I played NS from 1.03 - Now, not always active but on and off, used to play a lot back when 2.0 came out. I love the RTS/FPS style NS offered to the community, its what made me love NS, and get into it. When Combat was introduced it seemed more like a team death match, with a small objective and nearly no strategy, pretty much what CS has evolved into today.

I hope the current Combat system is never introduced into NS2. Why you ask? Because it destroyed the RTS/FPS style NS was originally intended to be. Yes when I get home from work I don't mind playing a quick 10-25 min Combat map, but after that I want to get into the NS Classic maps and play a few games. Combat has pretty much took over NS, with the team death match style of play.

The only way I can see Combat being in NS2 is to have a system which A.)Offers somewhat of a learning curve into what NS really is ex. Tech tree elements, defending, capturing points, holding them etc. B.)Territory type of play (think Battle Field 2) with some RTS/FPS elements, ex. Capture a Resource Node a Resource Tower appears and you have to defend it in order to get an upgrade, or points to upgrade with. C.)More teamwork required, none of this senseless death match style of play, which I think Territorial combat elements would help a lot here.

    Just my 2 cents.

True. The biggest part of Natural-selection players enjoy Combat, simply because it's faster. Most people don't have the time to enjoy one hour games of NS_. Also, removing Co_ would be a finishing move for ns, since the ns population is 2/3 Co. and the 1/3 of NS consits of a clan named [wb]... They are on every server. Remove Co and NS IS DEAD! It's not so hard to understand

NS_ in EUR is officially DEAD!

I think NS2 have to include classic and combat gamemodes, there are people who likes combat maps more than classic maps, that's a fact, and devs have to please all kind of players.
Maybe they dont include combat gamemode in the initial release, but it may be added in future updates.

if ns2 has an easier learning curve there's little need for combat imo...

Combat has gone beyond it's intended use of "teaching" people how to play NS and has become a quick game mode where you pop in and pop out. It's no longer about learning NS. It has become a stand alone game mode that people enjoy completely unrestrected by the conventions of NS, Both NS and Combat are two completely different and arguably unrelated forms of gameplay.

How about we just stop after "said". Newness to the forum is no indication of validity. Plenty of veteran players have never been a part of the official forums.

Also, the constant "CS NUB!" and "dumbened down combat" posts need to stop. Just because someone prefers a different game type doesn't mean they are in any way inferior. Reverting to middle-school cliques of "us vs them" is hardly an effective method for maintaining a non-stagnant community.

The only real failure of combat is that it's so completely different from NS that the two are effectively two different games competing against each other for players. Servers that combine the two tend to empty every time the gametype changes because players come looking for one kind of gameplay -- not both.

Honestly, I'd prefer NS2 to be a hybrid of the two -- but failing that, to choose one gametype and stick with it.
