HUD sprites appear black

FreewaveFreewave Join Date: 2005-02-05 Member: 39935Members
Some of my HUD sprites appear black. This is a problem since I can't be commander (I can't see the pictures on the buttons). I tried downloading custom sprites to solve the problem, but no success.

Has anyone had this problem before?

    are you running 64bit?

    i got the same problem
im guessing its related to that,or a combination between drivers and 64bit

    my boyfriend had this too.
he switched back to normal windows and then it worked fine again

why on gods green earth are people still trying to use windows vista? its the biggest pile of crap out there.. has limited support for drivers and current games out on the market, its pointless and nothing but problems.

On another note, friend of mine had the same problem, its an issue with vista like all issues currently going around. He never found a fix for it either, just reinstalled windows xp

Yes, I'm running on 64bit xp. I didn't have a problem on my old computer.

I have a feeling it's something to do with the graphics card like HatlabuFarkas mentioned. I have a geforce 7800 GT.

HatlabuFarkas, I have that problem too. The teams appear green, ready room black. It's annoying as hell.

This is actualy a REALLY old bug (As old as NS in all honesty). One of the known problems was dual monitors (if your card supports it, make sure you have the 2nd one disabled, even if you are not ussing it, make sure it is actively disabled).

There have been alot of things that caused this, and I don't remember ever seeing a hard and fast fix for it, however what every one else said (drivers) is always a good bet.

I remember there being a identical problem with windows 64bit.

Try setting cl_gammaramp (0,1) to 1. This should fix your problem.

Definitive solution time (Which has actually been posted now in about 50 threads that I can remember...)

The scoreboard, and HUD sprite errors are caused by an incompatibility with the drivers, and the Gamma Ramp (which controls, obviously, gamma display in the GoldSRC engine, which NS is based off). This causes things to be rendered incorrectly, as the gamma ranp is sending the normal commands, which the graphics drivers are interpreting incorrectly.
Turning the gamma ramp off, forces the engine to actually render things itself (from what I understand of it).
It's not due to out of date drivers, or mutliple monitors being used.
This is a known problem with ALL 64-bit operating systems, and the GoldSrc engine.

Use the command "cl_gammaramp 0" to deactivate the gamma ramp, then restart NS. This will force it to use the alternative method, and will fix the problem.
You may need to adjust the gamma through the Video Options afterwards though, due to the different method being used.

This is a bug with nVidia graphics drivers. Try upgrading, and if its still there, try downgrading.

This is your fix. Not updating graphics drivers, not downgrading them. It is not a graphics bug, its the difference between 32 bit, and 64 bit drivers.
The fix above is a <b>KNOWN WORKING FIX</b> for this precise problem, which I used to get, before the above fix was known to cure the problem.

Apply the fix above, TL;DR version is as follows.
    <!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->cl_gammaramp 0<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
