VLC is an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_software" target="_blank">application</a>. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectShow" target="_blank">DShow</a> is a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_%28software%29" target="_blank">filter</a>. It's kind of hard to use an app (that uses filters) instead of the filters (that the app uses).

Yep, I'll take VLC over Filters any time. I don't like installing all kinds of seperate things when VLC is an "all in one" package... However I only use VLC for stuff that won't load with fddshow filers or with media player classic (MPC is my standart player)

uugh, I hate apple's stupid advertising campaign. It doesn't even make sense half the time and all they ever say is "HAY PC SO COMPLICATIOD MAEN" which is quite lol.
Because everyone knows plugging a camera in is hard work.
Also it is too aggressive and tries to distance mac users and pc users way too much.
The PC ads were kinda funny I guess... I tried to pretend every time he talked about business usage he was referring to servers. That way I can push Windoze out of my head and think about stable distros like BSD...
