more of a steam question but, is fraps considered and/or detected as a cheat somehow? I was debating getting some footage in games from it to try and show my friend what this other game is but I dont wanna get my account banned in the process <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

The best way to do it is use the built-in "staretmovie 25 clipx" command then use virtualdub to compress the bmps into a divx movie.
(+ Vegas for easy editing)

No its not a cheat but like the post said above me its really bad at messing up your frames. For instance If you have 150 FPS in HL2, you would expect it to be somewhere near that when its recording. But no it does not do that. It records your game your playing with 25 FPS, and it drops the whole game to that level(thats terrible). I used it many times, got fed up on how I cant shoot people because of it. So I just baught a HD capture card for my other computer, works wonderful. But if you dont have enough cash or another computer to do that, fraps is the only choice.
correct me if im wrong
the best way is:
1. record a demo
2. capture it with "startmovie <25> (or 200pictures per second if you want a high quality movies) <name>
3. Encode with Virtual Dub
4. Use vegas for cutting the scenes
---
5. Record the demo again with fraps
6. Use Virtual Dub to rip the audiostream of the fraps avi
7. insert the wav-file to your vegas project
8. edit and finish it
Usualy you've only got short clips, cutted togehter. Its not a big deal to sync them with the sound.
Same goes for 1 large video. you just need to 1 shot or footstep synchronous.
its not that hard to record the whole thing with fraps again, you just have to start the demo and press F5 ohr whatever key starts fraps.
