AI controlled allies...

An idea that I've gotten for later NS games would be to have AI controlled allies for both teams. This probably wouldn't happen in NS2, but possibly in NS3. It could add more RTS elements that people have been complaining that NS is losing. You could have them follow around squads to help productiveness. If the aliens get a commander in NS2, the same thing could go for them. They would be smaller and weaker than normal players, and would look much more different than players. Marines could have something to the extent of droids, who could help speed up building construction(but they can't by themselves), could heal teammates, boost marines into vents, or just help shoot aliens. They would only be able to do one function at a time and there would be a small prep time. The aliens could have the same thing, but maybe with swarms of bugs or something. The droids and bugs would only be able to function where there is/n't infestation. Oh, you could also have hives/marine start be production centers, making the hives more important to obtain.

So, yeah. What other functions could they serve?

Lets focus on NS2 first. NS3 is a loooooooooooong way away.

i think having some form of simple AI drone for each side would be nice to flesh out the game. we have the turrets and the towers now, but maybe some form of drone would be nice.

    (just ideas)

marines: some sort of flying recon drone, lightly armed if at all, flies around and spots aliens and displays them on the map. killable in one bite, maybe 2 gorge spits. maybe it could have a context menu that appears when the marines click on them, one option would be patrol, the other would be 'follow me'. if it were to be armed, a simple pistol like weapon, low clip size, limited ammo and damage capacity. maybe it can be upgraded with tech. (drone rush FTW?)

Aliens: some sort of small bat like creature, flies around the map like the marine drone, easy to kill, but hard to hit. spots marines and places them on the map. built by gorges for a few RES, if they were to be armed, maybe they could get the lerk spike, nerfed of course.

I think the developers can come up with more ideas then a third sequel.

i'd love to see babblers back in NS, but they shouldnt look like skulks. they need to look completely different to any other alien, so you can tell them apart.

i know it was easy to tell a real skulk apart from the babblers, but it just used to annoy me that they used the same model, thats all.

    *googles Babblers*

Ah, computer controlled skulks. Yeah, that's pretty much what I was getting at, except with different models and functions other than "kill everything that moves". You could even make a chamber specifically for the production of babblers, which would use more res, take longer to build, and would be limited to one per hive.
