dynamic welding obstacles

in NS1 marines are able to weld certain parts of the map to block the aliens path, what i propose is a way to dynamically lift and place objects and weld them in place with the welder. these objects would all originate as movable objects, marines would be able to grab them and manipulate them, if the object is light, they can use a welder them self to weld the object to a weldable surface, most metal surfaces will suffice. however if it is a heavy object, they cannot weld and hold at the same time, they must either set it down, or have some one else weld it for them. objects would be unweldable in the same fashion, by using the welder on them, they would lose there connection and then be subject to gravity. for balance, aliens can destroy the welds by damaging them, i envision onos's being able to destroy these welds in a few hits, fades in about 7, skulks, lurks would take a while, and except for the bile bomb, the gorge would take a long time to spit the welds off.
