That way they don't have a 64 ticks, huge fps drop, poor hitreg and retarded balance as their first experience.
Those who really like to play on Wooza server will know how to find their way back.
This. A million times this.
Guys, we will never ever make any changes to this game solely to ruin a community. We don't "have it in" for anybody, we're not picking on the little guys here.
Every single change we have made to the game since November has been with the express purpose of improving the new player experience. That's it.
We're not shutting down Woozas, or any other server. We're not going out of our way to make it especially difficult to increase the player count. All we've done is change the default filter to the regular sized ns2 servers. This is done so that new players actually get to experience NS2 as it was intended.
Maybe you like the large servers. Good for you. But that is not how NS2 was intended to be played. It's not what the game was balanced for, it's not in any way indicative of how the game was meant to perform, and because of all this it CERTAINLY cannot be the first thing a new player experiences.
You ruined a community with a little change, now stay to what you have done.
You are hidding us from the server browser and trying to make people believe that new players got lost in modded servers, how silly is that. Can you provide any proof about rookies leaving the game so quick because they land on a Faded, Last Stand or Siege server?
Second: You hide Favorite Servers from the default view in the server browser (When they run another game mode). People believe that my servers are offline since the day you introduce. It is a drastic design error you have done and again, by purpose to shut down or community, slowly but precisely.
"We're not shutting down Woozas". Of course not. This would be too obvious. You do it slowly so we can't do anything against. If people wanted to play ns2large nothing is stopping them. If this change really killed all traffic to woozas then that tells me that the majority of people playing there are NOT there for the ns2large gameplay.. They are there because your ns2large server had open slots and the other lower pop servers didn't.
Maybe people found out now that the server also had a lot of people you randomly joined a server. They did not cared about size, community or mod, they were looking for a slot. Now you keep hiding the server for those people.
The result of day one: http://ns2servers.devicenull.org/servers/1736539/85.7.123.134:27016/?date=04/13/16 . Now I would like to hear an argument that support the view of the other side. You reached what you intend to do: Not killing my community directly but slowly, over time.
If it contine like this we will shut down the server and bring everyone to write a negative Steam Review and tell the world what had been going on. The only way UWE can't edit or delete our posts.
THE ONLY design error was the hackable server binaries. This shouldn't even have been possible in the first place and when the possibilty was discovered, UWE should have intervened and fixed this immediately!
>24 slots should never have established. You knew that UWE never supported >24 slots, and that for good reasons (performance / balance), but now that they actually somewhat (not really, they're still being merciful) compliance with their own policy, which you knew of, you want to blackmail them?
I mean, I already expected this would happen, but not from you, but someone from your community..

my favorite part of this thread is that there's s new reply every 5 minutes.
Thus making my work day a little more enlivened.
Let's just keep in mind that we're all ns2 players, whether large or small preferred. That alone makes us superior to all other humans. Poop does not need to be slung (as entertaining as it is).

Re: Bring back the NS2 Large on the default server list
Content creators like Wooza have helped build communities who are passionate for NS2 and the different ways it can be played. For example: Avoca's take on Siege, Wooza's large servers + experimental game modes, UWE's alternative game modes... These modders have made a niche where anybody can have fun. However, they need a stage and a spotlight in order to reach an audience. Many mods might not survive without an influx of new players and constant tweaking or fixes but that doesn't mean they aren't loved by the community.
I'm not saying we need to promote modded servers, but I don't believe it's okay to tuck them away either. I fully understand that the UWE devs are free to present NS2 however they see fit. However, it seems they are brushing off these alternative game modes we've come to love. As a long-time player, donator and follower of NS2, I greatly appreciate new ways of playing the game.
At the risk of sounding stupid, I'll say this: if I was a Frankenstein server hiding among the normal servers... I'd be pretty mad and sad if I got labeled as second-rate. These content creators have worked hard to broaden the horizons of NS2, and I respect them as much as I respect the UWE devs. You guys have made something really fun and that's worthy of respect. All I want is for these content creators to be held in equal esteem.
PS: I'd like to mention that Wooza has not directly told his server to leave negative reviews. I was playing all day today and yesterday and I read his announcements. Despite his unhappiness with UWE's decision, I do not think he is trying to start a personal vendetta. He just wants an equal opportunity to thrive, just like anybody else. He's being told that his love-child is second-rate, so I can understand why he feels let-down.

Re: Update 294 Released on Steam! - Natural Selection 2
This is good, we need change, no matter if it's better or worse (hopefully for the better lol)
Re: Bring back the NS2 Large on the default server list
EDIT: The picture I attached has been spoilered, please open the spoiler for reference.
This is what a new NS2 player sees when he opens the Server Browser. A bunch of 0's. It's no wonder that people sort by "Players". UWE should put whichever game mode they want on top without the use of conventional filtering techniques like "all" "ns2 large" "faded".... This would prevent rookies from sorting by "players", but it would still let some rookies find high population servers.
Even though I proposed an inelegant way of filtering things, it's much better than excluding all modded servers by default. I really hope UWE is putting more thought into this decision because I think it's unfair to the content creators who have poured time and money into this game.
In summary: BY DEFAULT, keep all servers in one list. Put Vanilla servers on top, modded at the bottom. This way, we do not undermine content creators by hiding their mods in a seperate list. If the user wishes to further filter the list, allow him to do so.

Re: Bring back the NS2 Large on the default server list

Actually all them mods are being hurt with this seemingly insignificant change...
I get this was some kind of "new player" protection to give them vanilla NS2 as their first experience in NS2. But why have mods as invisible by default, when they're already very much invisible to the community.
Re: Bring back the NS2 Large on the default server list
I see two conspiracies here:
Combat NS2large is syphoning players from NS2 (the way it is meant to be played)
UWE is actively working against modders, by hiding their servers on default server settings (and on NS2 reboot, by resetting that "ALL" -> "NS2" filter)
Both are silly........
Here's an easy fix, I've mentioned it a lot of times now...
REVERT the change and WAIT until you got a proper new and flashy server browser. You know the one that shows the server list and on the side in extra areas... server information/minimap/I'm so done here

Re: Bring back the NS2 Large on the default server list
Nope, because it hides all "gameplay mods", the entire idea is silly and a way too simple implementation to add functionality which should be worked out in a much better way. The way it should've been handled is AFTER the new serverbrowser was finished with proper server information displayed next to the list of servers...
The point is to NEVER hide servers, just provide the information about them much more clearly...
Re: Update 294 Released on Steam! - Natural Selection 2
All I know is this change is definitely showing the ugly side of the remaining community with all the elitist comments, digs at casual players, and victim blaming in regards to the large servers.
I can understand why new players would take one good look at this and never come back.

This argument is flawed since those are a lot less prominent - there's only a handful, they are rarely populated, and if they are, they don't appear at the top of the server browser.

Oh come on, really? The devs are out to get you? I've always sympathized with you to a certain point but this is fucking ridiculous.
I'm really tempted to post an illuminati triangle and the x-files theme. Jesus.
