Re: Bottom escape pod hatch should be broken until repaired
I agree, exiting from the top hatch is a much better start to the game than slipping out the bottom of the pod. Maybe not even have to wait until power is restored to use it, just have to access the bottom hatch from outside to unjam it or something. That said, it would be kind of neat to actually have to use the ladders on the side of the pod during normal gameplay for at least a portion of the early game.
Re: Recipe changes - HUGE change to early game
We're still adjusting balance, but i hear your concerns and here's some things I agree with:
1. Over reliance on silver in early and mid game recipes
2. Over abundance of lead
3. Propulsion Cannon's use of magnetite is inappropriate as we encourage use of the propulsion cannon in the aurora (which we expect to be explored partially before jellyshroom caves).
Potential solutions to these issues:
1. a) Go back to copper for beacons (replacing silver)
b) Potentially replace silver in solar panel and bio reactor recipes
2. Increase silver to 50% probability in sandstone (up from 45%), reducing lead to 20%.
3. Simply remove magnetite from the propulsion cannon
I definitely think beacons should be made with copper wire. If they still need silver, you are effectively discouraging their use.
As long as the Propulsion Cannon requires magnetite, experienced players may *completely* explore jellyshroom caves before the Aurora. Meanwhile, new players will visit Aurora with no Propulsion Cannon at all and post many a negative review as they die to the many beasties so easily handled by the PC.
Re: [Important] Scanner room list scroll
Yeah, much as I love this room, I fear it might be received poorly if its not changed before game release. According to the game's wiki a scroll bar solution is planned. Personally I hope they use a 'sampling' solution (i.e. you give the room a sample of what you want it to look for).
Re: Multiplayer Mod Update
It look like the moderator will have to include "Multiplayer MOD" to the "afraid not -> stop asking" thread.
Bottom escape pod hatch should be broken until repaired
Pretty much the title. The escape pod bottom hatch should be offline at the beginning of the game (until the power is restored with the welder). It's more cinematic to have players exit out the top of the escape pod at the beginning on the game and see the scope of their situation similar to the CGI trailer.
Re: What would the long fabled Natural Selection 3 be like?
A mod for HL3, obviously.
Re: What would the long fabled Natural Selection 3 be like?
All bets are off if NS3 doesn't have the BUS!
Re: Greetings Survivor, great job not dying.
I also agree with the OP.
I was told by one of the devs that the decision was made to remove "Great job not dying" because of complaints that it was too morbid.
I do not know what happened, but after this they started to slowly cut out all the humor. With the most recent update, even all the funny small fish tool tips were wholesale changed to "Small edible prey fish".
I don't agree with the notion that it's not realistic for a survival game. The game plays in a far future with very different socio-cultural mores to begin with. Many things in the game could be equally considered not realistic for the average survival game. But that's exactly the point: this is not an average survival game. These changes do not make Subnautica more survival-ish or more realistic. As someone else rightly noted, it is becoming more dry.
The humor is what actually stood out for me, big time. It what all the others are missing. And in every Subnautica video I have seen on Youtube, everyone chuckled at the game's seminal, yet now dead, tag line "Greetings survivor. Great job not dying." It set the mood. Well, it used to...
For those who have known it, it will be sorely missed.
If any of you have ever seen Subnautica played by Neebs Gaming, you know how they took to that humor and ran with it.

Re: [Important] Scanner room list scroll
Only like... an hour before. I mean, don't get me wrong, I hope you're right about it, but I think it still needs attention drawn to it.That card was put into the backlog before the image was posted on it. They probably just haven't gotten around to moving it back out yet.
The map in my saved game seems to have reset on update? Is that normal? Also major kudos to dev team
First my question. I had a saved game that I went back to after a week or so and the map seems to have reset, likely due to an update. My pod is in the same spot and my other base is still there, but everything else is reset. All the resources were reset and all my pipes have disappeared. This might not be a problem, except that I had a VERY extensive pipe network setup. It's a real bummer for me. I'll probably end up starting over a game that had maybe 20 hours into it. Could be worse, but still a bummer.
All I would like to know: Is this normal after an update? Does it normally reset like this? I suppose if I did not update it would not reset?
Second, I really want to compliment the development team. I played this game for a while about a year back and found it very cool, but all but unplayable for me. I tried like a dozen times and every time ended up running out of food and water before finding much. It was several things. First and foremost a lack of salt. I simply could not find enough to be able to make water. Second a lack of copper. I could not find enough to be able to make batteries I needed to be able to use vehicles to find salt. Third, a lack of enough blueprints for me to be able to find stuff that would help before I died of a lack of food and water.
Coming back I find that the game does not seem to have changed much, but suddenly it is playing like I feel that it always should have. I could get out there and explore and find things I could use, make discoveries... etc. IE. I am now having a lot of fun playing a game I always thought should be fun, but that I was failing at so miserably that I never got to the fun part.
I am really rather glad that the game was not changed substantially, as it still feels tough AND immersive. It does not hand hold too much. But I believe that a little balancing of resources really made all the difference. Most notably more salt was added. This was the one absolutely necessary resource if players who are not good at the game(like me) were to enjoy Subnautica. The other thing that seems to have been changed is that there are more blueprints to find. This helps bad players like me find at least a few cool things to help them early on and is a real encouragement to press on and find more. This was not happening for me previously. I was dieing before I found much of anything. Every time.
So a bit of rebalancing the resources has really turned my Subnautica experience from unplayable failure to loads of exploration goodness. For that I thank the dev team wholeheartedly.
I also want to thank them for looking at the air tank situation. It use to be that I could fill my inventory with air tanks. Which gave me more air, but slowed me down quite significantly. It was really annoying that all the tanks slowed me down so much. So I asked them to change it by making air tanks in my inventory not slow me down. They instead gave me a better air tank that I could get without too much difficulty that did not slow me down and took away the ability to have more air tanks in my inventory.
This had a number of very nice benefits. One, more inventory space, which was another thing that bothered me. Two, I was no longer slowed by tanks in my inventory. Three, another cool and useful thing to find early on. And four, I still had a very reasonable amount of air, because of the upgraded air tank, without making the game too easy OR too hard. They thought outside of the box and instead of buffing OR nerfing they came up with a third option that fixed the actual problems without really making the game easier/too easy. Major Kudos.
I have gained some major belief in this dev team as a whole. I imagine that some of these changes likely ticked off some people... just know that it helped some of us enjoy the game, where we were not before. Now I will definitely be recommending this game to all my friends.
Lastly... If I could ask for one thing in this game, it would be some way of simplifying the inventory/storage situation. I spend WAY more time than I would like messing with my inventory and storage. I understand that it's a part of the game, but right now it's an annoying part of the game. I would LOVE to see the dev team come up with some solution to simplify it a bit, so that I'm not spending so much time fiddling with it. Quite simply, I want to spend more time exploring and less time fiddling with inventory/storage. If you all could look at that I would be very appreciative.
Thanks much and sorry for the long post.
