looks kind of strange with all the ~ and the / hum
other then that, all looks okay. maybe try updating to a newer version of the compilers?

    Did you check the log?

What do you open the .log file with? Cause I opened it w/ wordpad and it showed me the exact same compile process.

if it was rad, you might have a leak in your map somewhere

Wordpad should do the trick -- if there's nothing else in the log, then you have a silent crash.

You're probably hitting the internal limit on light memory, which causes a buffer overflow and crash without any explanation in old versions of HLRAD. I used to update these tools and if you look around there are newer versions that (1) up the maximum light memory and (2) throw an explicit error instead of causing a buffer overflow.

Search for ZHLT p13 on google if you want the last stable release, or check out th e ZHLT 3.0 thread in the main Mapping forum here for the latest beta version.

EDIT: or just go here... <a href='http://www.zhlt.info/download-zhlt.html' target='_blank'>http://www.zhlt.info/download-zhlt.html</a>

HLRAD doesn't deal with leaks, and if he did have a leak HLBSP would have reported it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I got the latest ZHLT version (the beta one), and it still shows the same thing in the compile process, with the exception that it said to check zhlt.info if an error occured in that stage of compile. Could multiple light_spots set as sky cause the problem? Any advice will be nice, I just want to get ns_industry finished so I can focus on WoW.

Ok I deleted all but 1 light_spot set as sky and it still has the problem, so thats not it.... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

not in this case. i have the same zhlt version he has, and it will compile and run the map no matter how big the leak is, the only way i know that theres a leak in the map is that its fullbright and that hlrad reports it had an error.

dictator, click on the map menu and load the point file. if theres a bunch of lines going around the map that slowly turn from blue to red, then you have a leak in your map.

    Possible fix/something to check:

In your compile settings (the 'Run Map [Advanced] box), for your $light_exe $path/$file do you have the box labelled 'use long filenames' checked? It seems it's only taking folder and file name lengths 6 characters long, but only in the hlrad section (which is kind of strange, because I thought the limit was 8 - which makes me think you might have a misplaced tilde for some reason).

...Anyway, check to make sure you have 'Use Long Filenames' checked for every compile tool.

If that doesn't help, try setting up your map compiler again (mine screwed up ocasionally too, in the past).

[And if that helps you somehow; you can thank my university's IT department for being complete crap - since I didn't even mean to go to this forum <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> ]

It's definitely not a leak, because I loaded both .lin and .pts files and no lines show up, but the map is fullbright when I compiled it.

I guess I can put a giant box around my map, if all else fails.
  • DictatorDictator Join Date: 2004-02-02 Member: 26005Members
OK nevermind it was the file name thing. But why would it uncheck it for me when I specifically checked it when I set it up? In addition, I now have another error.
