Art wanted!
Our advanced programming class is finishing up its games. I am on a two-person team to create a videogame for our year project. We have been working since the opening of the school year and things are finally winding down into the final stages. My partner is just now completing the double-buffering allowing us to replace the UGLY white background we have been using all year. Right now we have replaced it with a non-moving star-scape, but have strongly considered adding a moving background to add flavor to the game. I have attached a screenshot of our action packed game below; it is titled "Mercenary."

The background must be detailed but lack conspicuous objects. The map will repeat over and over as it scrolls down, possibly 30 times depending on the speed we define. An example of a non-conspicuous background would be a bird’s eye view of treetops, which won't be easily remembered as they are repeated numerous times. The height requirement is a minimum of 768 pixels but can be larger; the width must be 810 pixels. But most importantly, the background must run seamlessly. If I were to line up the top and bottom of the same background, it would look as though it were one piece of terrain; not suddenly drop off and make it clear where the map is starting again.

Right now we are looking for a birds-eye view of a forest, ocean, mountain range and a flat, white-sands style desert; though, we'll happily accept other creative and amazing backgrounds for use in "Mercenary!"

If you have talent in any art program and you have the time and willingness to pursue this task, please contribute a piece of work. IF we have use for your background we will gladly apply it to "Mercenary" and mention you in our credits listing as an artist! I'll also see what I can do about sending you a copy of the finalized game so that you can enjoy it as well while admiring your own art passing below in one of the levels. Skill and creativity are musts!

Thanks for your help! If you have any questions or comments please email me at Inuss352@hotmail.com

This is good work, but does not fit the requirements we require.

The planets stand out and the player will easily recognize them when they appear again as the background scrolls.

Also, the background fades away at the top and bottom, if they were to be placed top to bottom with a copt of the image, we get a large, black gap in the scrolling.

This is a good example to show what we are looking for and better define the qualities in the backgrounds we are seeking. Thankyou for such a speedy response!

    Nice.

I did a project similar to yours. What I did was get a large space-y wallpaper, take a vertical strip, and pasted an inverted version of it above (not over, above as in up the Y axis of the 2D plane of the screen) the original. This gave a looping background that has 2 points where you can tell things were inverted (where the two versions of the wallpapers meet), but people wont know if they werent looking for it.

If for some reason Delta-Snipe's arent up to snuff for you (very purty tho), this is a quick and dirty way of doing it.

edit: guess Im a bit slow. Let me know if you need/want a more detailed explaination.

edit2: make sure you give credits to the artist who made the wallpaper.

Well I would have thought I would have gotten more responses if ppl realize we are actually gonna put this art in a game. Unless I get more responses, I would like to use your pieces Eforcer and DeltaSnipe. On a few conditions.

Delta snipe, take out those planets and lengthen background more, probably more 300 pixels or art.

Enforcer, take out those diagonal stain lines, they are making us dizzy and it looks like the map is made up of tired treads.

Thanks for your contributions, and unless we get more art, we are most likely to use these. Thankyou.

And angry exprerssions to you ppl who didn't try at all. Thanks.

nope, no height limit. But width must be exact.
