Problem With Steam?

<div class="IPBDescription">Slowness on certain maps.</div> I did a search and nothing came up, but sorry if this has been mentioned before.

On certain maps, I seem to lag greatly, even though my ping stays the same. This happens notably on the entire bottom half of the map on metal (while on the top I'm lag-free), one of the .co maps, the port engine room in ns_nancy, and maybe a couple more ns_ maps. What's going on? My FPS gets horrible in those specific places, but my ping stays the same. Before Steam (back in NS 2.0), I've never had this problem.

well it would help with some system specs. it also could be other tasks in the background hogging up all your system resources.

does your hard disk light flash constantly, or more than usual?
are you running heavy system processes? (heavy as in using a lot of resources)
does it do the same on other games or just ns?

some questions need answering before anyone can really help you.

I think I probably have thesame problem(see a few threads ago). It only happens on some maps. I can like play for 2 hours straight with no problems, then play on that certain map and have horrible lag. This is a NS-problem or map-problem.

viper- , I think my problem is the same as Neoken's. I run nothing in the backround (Cheating Death, but that isn't working for some reason since the latest update), my proccessor runs at 1.2 Ghz, so I don't think it's my computer. Also, this only happens on NS.

I can have better FPS than everyone else on one map, but have the worst FPS in that port engine room on ns_nancy. I think it may be a Steam problem, but there seems to be no information on it (that I know of).
