well, as silly as this sounds these are valid questions. they come up in the fan fic and RPGing sections. the answers can be important, or at least relivent, for the people who frequent those parts. he may be an idiot but his question stands. whats a DM supposed to do when a char is hacking a seige turrent? you have to have an understanding of how things work.
