    Listen to your commander
    Never drop chambers without asking
    Read the manual
    Learn to bunnyhop
    Be a nice person

Do that and you will be fine. (You don't have to bhop but it helps)

Yeah, just go down to the "Frontiersman Strategy" and "Kharra Strategy" forums, and just start looking for important threads. There is alot of useful info in both forums, but you may have to do a little work to find it. Also, I believe somebody around these forums still runs a little gathering every week for nubcaeks to learn how to play NS. I think they even allow for people to try their hand at commanding, which can be very tough to do on public servers.

    Aliens:
    1. Play skulk alot. You can do perfectly fine being a skulk the whole game, and with more kills as a skulk you can afford to try different other lifeforms out.

    2. Try to think of you team. If you have 50 resourses, and your team lacks a hive, dont go fade, but build the hive. Same thing goes with chambers and most importantly RTs! But ask your team before spending alot of res, usually someone knows what you should do.

    3. Be sneaky. Even though most elite players arnt, its more fun, and you will learn every corner of the maps. Vents are also incredibly usseful to know of.

    4. Dont waste res. aliens can heal up for free at their hive of defence chambers, if you are hurt, run. This applies even to onos' and fades.

    5. Dont place new uppgrade chambers as the gorge unless youve played the game for some time. Chambers are very important for your team, and can be the key to victory or defeat. Let the best people decide which chambers to use.

    Marines:

    1. Follow the ****** orders! There is nothing more annoying than marines that dont go where the commander wants to.

    2. Make sure people are willing to let you be the commander, and always tell them you are new to the game. This will hopefully make them treat you less like a n00b and more like a newbie.

    3. Communicate. This is the best thing the marines can do. Aliens to, but the marines are worse.

    4. Dont ask for weapons, dont tell the commander what to do, and for gods sake; DONT BLAME THE COMMANDER.

    5. make secrifices for your team. Someone HAS to build the stuff, and someone HAS to guard the new base. In large servers you will not be alone though.

    General:

    1. Learn the names of the stuff. Saying things like "Commando I think we need some torrents here at the hovaring scorpians" will not be popular(except in the opposing team)

    2. Teamspeak whenever its about the game. This game is alot about know where the enemy are and what theyre up to.

    3. Dont whine. Every game has 50% loosers, deal with it. Blaming others will not make it better, especially if they leave and make the odds even worse.

    4. Try to learn the maps, and the most common manes(like dualres rooms and hiverooms) it helps immensly if you friends know which hive is going to be sieged, and not "the one in the big room with the beams in the celing"

    5. When you learn, remeber how it was when you just started, and keep that in mind before verbaly abusing another player for doing mistakes or not knowing.

    5.

I think the easiest place to start is understanding this isn't a typical FPS.. This also isn't a typical RTS...

Team-work makes or breaks you in this game. You can be a super star killer in all other FPS, but here even if you can kill most things that come at you, there is only one of you and if no-one is playing with team work you will lose.

Having the highest score at the end of this game means nothing...

THere are objectives that must be completed during a round, and getting them done mean more to your team than randomly killing 5 low-level enemies (since they simply respawn..)

Some people still don't understand this basic shift in game philosophy and it tends to make pub servers more interesting as you have a bunch of different play levels.

i made a short guide on teh forums a while ago for 2.01,but 3.0 nerfed it before it was finsihed, just look for guide or something like that in the frontersman forum, should help quite a lot.

also if youre new try to spec ppl,see how they play it helps alot.

and dont be a comm on a server without practicising in on your own server, so annoying waiting 5 minutes for an infantry portal and getting a turret factory instead.

I personally reccomend an Altec Lansing AHS 502. They are great.
