Latest Steam Update Issues..

I loaded up Steam today to go play NS, but I first had to wait for the lastest update for Steam to download.

Once I got into a server I was having no problems, and everything was normal as usual - until the map changed. Once the map changed my computer totally locked up and I had to manually reboot my computer. This was surprising to me because I've not had an issue with NS or HL for a very long time.

After the reboot I loaded up Steam again and joined a different server. All was well until I hit the disconnect button on the Steam main menu to try and leave the server. Pressing it locked up my computer again.

Long story short, it seems like whenever I try to leave a server or the map changes my computer locks up now. This never happened until the most recent Steam update.

I was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing something similar?

I also went and updated my video card drivers, but it didn't help.

SPECS:

Athlon 2400+
Radeon 9500 Pro
768 MB PC2100
Gigabyte 7VRXP
Soundblaster Live

Everything is running newest drivers now.

    yea when I quit HL my system freezes, somethimes when I cycle to another server it freezes aswell since last updates.

    ...and since today I get a popup box something about CS dunno what...

    Yes I have that problem too, sometimes its when i quit but not always which is got me stumped. I have tryed binding this bind "F12" "stopsound; quit" and it works, but i still get random crashes when im not quiting. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Yeap, suddenly started happening here too.. after the 10th March update.
    Crashes on quit/change server within game - hard power off only =/
    Sometimes ctrl+alt+del shows up and i can end task, but that's on rare occasions :[

    I'm finanlly understanding why you always hear "steam sux0rs!!1one"

    random complete lockup doing: mapchange, quitting, or disconnecting

    ya, i dont get the random freezes but whenver i try to leave (disconnected) a server it frezzes on me...

    Funny how it doesent happen in CS, but it does in everyother mod. They said they were gonna release another update to fix it "shortly"

    Yep me too, freezes mostly on disconect but sometimes in game.

    me got the freeze on disconnetc and on quit

    task manager always helps me out , but its anoying

    Update CD - that fixed the problem for me. The latest version is 4.17.1

    Don't know if you tried this:

    Exit Steam and go to c:/program files/steam folder and delete the clientregistry.blob file. I was having the same issue mentioned and this seemed to fix mine.

    Basically when you start steam again it performs all the updates all over again without having to unistall/reinstall steam.

    WTH... same here, but also Steam's network usage has been 40-240kb all morning for no reason, it just says scanning and I can't stop it without closing the program.

    Tommy: Steam's probably downloading CS:CZ for you. Go into the games menu and stop it preloading.

    Scythe might be on to something here, Condition Zero was loading on its own for me and I didn't even know it. Stop/Cancel it or let it complete on its own(if you want Condition Zero) and see what happens.

    I cancelled out of it and no crashing thus far.

    ya, weird thing is its like it has a mind of its own...i meen when i first heard of it i checked and it wasnt loading anything...so i was like ok. It stayed that way for like 3 days. Then i log on tonite and i see my network usage like at 100kbs! Thats when i found out it was loading CZ up.
