Well, at least it stays closer to the game (in many aspects) more than Resident Evil....but...err, didn't this guy direct that too?

Original Mortal Kombat film was pretty decent. It was the others i never liked, including that AWFUL spin off series, ahniliaitatnaation or whatever it's called.
The film will be fine. In my opinion, the very worst it can be is another Starship Troopers, but that still isn't the bottom of the barrel.

I hope that at least one predator nukes himself in the movie. Preferably in the middle of a mass of aliens. The self-destruct thing is just too cool to leave unused.

Can we all please point out things wrong with the trailer and the film in general, that doesn't insult the director or his past movies?
So he went on about a weapon that's going to be in the film... so? What else can he talk about at this stage? Tell you the entire plot, all the characters? Give you a detailed lecture on how they made the predator suits and exactly what actors are inside each of the alien suits?
The film will be fine. He'd have to do something fantasticly stupid to completely ruin this film. I agree that it most likely won't be the best film ever, or hold a candle to Aliens or Predator, but it's going to be at least decent.
right let me get this straight, the Preds bought the aliens to earth a long long long LONG time ago and used that part of earth as a hunting ground and then they got teh humans to worship them etc. So this is kinda spoofing off into Alien is that ship they find in Alien a transport that the Preds made that was either sent TO earth or sent from earth?!
plus where do the Preds live and where did the Aliens come from if anyone acutally knows this?

The trailer wasn't bad. It showed high production values and a steady camera - nothing more, nothing less. The problem is that it wasn't outstanding in any sense of the word, either.
Hey...Mortal Kombat was pretty good. It stayed reasonably close to the plot of the game and it captured the feel of the game well, without going completly over the top. Same with Resident Evil, while it was nothing like the game (Thank god...) it was a stylish well directed movie, nowhere near as bad as some people make out. I watched it in the cinema and came out entertained. I wasn't expecting anything more than straight out zombie/action flick and i wasn't disappointed.
To be honest Paul W Anderson has done the best out of all directors when it comes to game movies. I mean just look at Super Mario Brothers and the horrific mess that was Streetfighter. Plus Event Horizon was a great movie too.
Sure he's no Kubrick, Scott or Cameron etc. But when you're dealing with a film like Alien Vs Predator, what do you expect?
While the Alien films, at least the first two (Although I thought 3 was a brave move in a new direction for the series and imo it was pulled off well, at least in the special edition), were great cinema. The Predator films were nothing but action for the most part and thats what we're going to get with AvP.
I disagree. The first Predator film actually had a pretty good premise, and was not entirely motivated around action. Yes, they have a minigun, but the preview, trailer, etc are not fixated around "teh minigunn0r". Second, the script in Predator is priceless. You get an empathy with the characters. Predator II...... well the least said the better.
Alien was pure suspense. Aliens was more actiony, but hardly an action film - it just had well timed burst of battle with a little character development inbetween. Alien 3 tried to go back to suspense, and Alien: Resurrection was..... odd. The novel is far better.
All we can see in this film is the sort of story that *appeals* to only the most deluded fanboy. Now, don't get me wrong - I love the whole AvP universe, but I worry when a sneak peak video just tells us all about "OMGZOR TEH SNIKT SNIKT SHURIKENZZZZ". It just doesn't hook me. When the core of your teaser is about a WEAPON, it makes me worry about the film.
Why does he focus on the weapon? Because the average nobrainer special effects junkie is going to go ape over some new weapon. The rest of us are looking for plot elements, story, and ideally NEW IDEAS. Not something formulaic.
You could take out the aliens and predators from this film and replace them with virtually anything else, without affecting the story in any great way. Its just a vehicle to shove the two together, with plot elements used from the comics in a rather haphazard way (predator blooding ritual, predators breeding aliens). Its sloppy.

Okay. So there's (sorta) three groups fighting here. Humans, Aliens, Predators.
Scenario: Aliens "win." Humans (at least the locals) have been owned. Predators... set off their nuke, wouldn't they? As they've had any time that the aliens won and the preds failed their exam, so to speak. Human life goes on elsewhere on Earth. Obviously, since humans are still around, I'd think the ritual's only happened a couple of times and the preds have always either won or fired their nukes in time, or the aliens are contained somehow despite predator failure to win or nuke.
Predators "win." Aliens have lost. Preds are happy and go home to party and pick up chicks. Humans return to their daily lives. Everybody's happy except the aliens, who are dead.
Humans "win." I will assume this means they escape, or the survivor between the aliens and the preds are weak enough for the humans to somehow take down. Okay, so that's that. The preds failed their ritual, no problem. Aliens don't have spaceships, so we don't have to worry about retaliation.
Just my thoughts. Also, do preds have anti-alien coating on their armor? 'Cause if physical force (bullets, giant blocks of tree like in Predator 1, etc) can go through it, I would think the aciding alien blood of doom would go through pretty easily. I can just imagine the Predators swiping at aliens and then getting hosed in the backwash...
Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, predators have a better resistance to it than humans, but generally wind up wearing better armour for Alien hunts, in some cases armour made from the Aliens themselves.
Although considering the bloated turd this movie is, I'll expect the shurikens to magically protect the predators with cool forcefields.
The First 2 Alien Movies were AWESOME! The First Predator movie was AWESOME! The 3rd and 4th Alien movies were god aweful The 2nd Predator movie wasn't as good as the first but still really good. This movie looks to be very Cool. After reading everything I can find about it, it looks like its going to be a great movie, I am going to see it for sure!
Also The Resident Evil movie was very well done as far as the plot of the First game went (kinda like a mix between the first and second games...) I loved that movie and it ended perfectly for the second movie to be made.
AvP should be good and will breath life back into the 2 movies.!
Now we just need a Natural Selection Movie to be made!

I mean I liked Resident Evil (I never played the games), but Mortal Kombat was horrible. My expectations for AvP just dropped a few pegs.
