Dad said, Son you're freaking high
And I thought, yeah there's a first for everything
So I took my old man's advice
Three sad semesters
It was only 15 grand spent in bed
I thought about the army
I dropped out and joined a band instead

Grew a moustache and a mullet
Got a job at Chick-fil-a
Citing artistic differences
The band broke up in May
And in June reformed without me
And they'd got a different name
I nuked another grandma's apple pie
And hung my head in shame

Been thinking a lot today
Been thinking a lot today

Oh, I think I'll write a screenplay
Oh, I think I'll take it to LA
Oh, I think I'll get it done yesterday

In this time of introspection
On the eve of my election
I say to my reflection
God please spare me more rejection
'Cause my peers they criticize me
And my ex-wives all despise me
Try to put it all behind me
But my redneck past is nipping at my heels

Actually, I think he'd be posted in South Korea...as we haven't invaded North Korea or anything [...yet?], probably in the DMZ.

My only question: what is the minimum visual requirements? Honestly, I'm healthy in pretty much every aspect except my eyes. I really want the college money too .

I got 20/50 (right) and 20/200 (left) with glasses, so I'm pretty sure I don't get to join the army (considering I'm barely good enough to be able to drive...thanks 11 mutation based eye deformaties!..especially the nystagmus (eye shaking)...although my astigmatism just up and left on its own).

I think I could work on a submarine...maybe. I don't think vision is overly important underwater. One of those nuclear subs? Except with college, I'd probably have to go against the 6 month trips.

Feels starnge when you guys are pondering about should you go or should you not go for fun Here (Finland) every man has to "go", its stated in law. Alternative to that is sitting in jail for about a year.
Its not so hard as you think, most people talk about army boot camp being nursery school. And this is still a civilized country No assault rifle-armed aquad is going to crash your door down, screaming "Time for your boot camp sucker!"

I also thought you got little longer than 3 months. Thats quite a short time after all. Im planning to keep myself there at least full year.

I wouldnt worry too much about seeing problems, even I wear glasses I got grade-A and doctor told me its gonna need a *serious* seeing problems to get lower grade.
I mean like bottle-end glasses. (if you can say that in english). And I dont think this little detail differs too much from there either.

I think what you're refering to is 'coke bottle glasses' but my vision is pretty bad. Like I said, I'm barely allowed to drive legally...I also have no nightvision (darkness = total blackness - can't see celestial bodies, apart from really bright ones - although, lately, I've been able to see a couple of stars and venus).

20/50 and 20/200 isn't exceptionally good...especially since it's with glasses.

Want to join the RAF as a pilot;
20/15 vision both eyes apparently, don't know what it means tbh, better than 20/20.

This isn't it exact, but: 20/20 is an object that appears to be 20 feet away is really 20 feet away.

20/15 would be an object 20 feet away being like it's 15 feet away (not that your vision is zoomed in, but it's sharper.

20/50 would be like being 20 feet away and it looks like it's 50 feet away (blurrier than a normal person, out of focus.

In a basic description of how everything looks to me: blur and overlap anything that's a significant distance away (without glasses). I can't think of how to describe with glasses since I've never had vision without them...I'd assume everything would be a little bit clearer and bigger..but that's probably only because I have to sit closer.

Basically it can go anywhere between there. Normal vision is 20/20 (hence the retardedly named TV show). I would assume you could substitute any measuring unit for feet, since it's not really important, and it's fairly general anyway.

I may be 20/40 in my right eye, based on past perscriptions it seems to fluctuate between 20/40 and 20/50 (depending on the doctor). Of course, for glasses, it's not really all that important, because saying your eye is 20/30 isn't going to let an optomotrist know how to make your lenses.

So, no one knows the general minimum visual requirements for the army and navy then? (the air force is obviously going to require 20/20 or better, heh)

How color blind are you?
There are very many degrees of color blindess.

And while you may not be able to be a pilot depending on its severity that doesnt mean you cant get other jobs in the airforce or other branches of the military.
• BobbyShaftoeBobbyShaftoe Join Date: 2004-01-13 Member: 25280Members
I'm not entirely sure just how colour blind I am but with regards to the eye-test I had I believe I failed the RAF endorsed one....

It has a pattern of 5 dots arranged in a diamond shape with one in the middle of them all:

/ *
* * *
/ *
(Ignore the /'s I can't make the diagram right )

You have to match the one in the middle with the closest matching one surrounding it...I think I managed the first 2 or 3 then the other 7 or 8 I had no clue

But I've been looking at the other Officer packages such as Flight Controller and Intelligence options and even had a look at the Army about Tank Commanding!
