By whom? I'm guessing the person who posted that doesn't remember that AvP: NS becamse AvP: Primal Hunt.
Um... I think they're working on an AvP movie.... It's directed by the guy who directed Event Horizon, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat I & II (ugh), and Soldier. Let's hope it's good.

Fox doesn't like it when people base a game on their movies, fearing that it will reduce the playerbase for any future game based on that movie that they'd want to bring out themselves.

First of all, you don't "get a copyright". A copyright always protects your work, and you don't ever have to apply for one, nor can you without it's protection. If you create something, you implicitly have the copyright for it.
As far as the "Natural Selection" name goes, that has to be trademarked, in the form of a product. It would've been stupid for them to try to use this name, as I already owned the trademark, but whether or not this is the reason they changed the name, I don't know.
Implicit copyright works well if you are able to come up with concrete proof that you created the work, which is not always easy.
To eliminate court hassles of proving that you are the creator, one may do something as simple as registering it with the U.S. Copyright Office (pay a nominal fee and send a printout or media containing copyrighted work).

(in the films) hmmm i think that weyland yutani was some sort of fishing company in japan which was bought by fox. but then there came a japan guy who took fox over then and thought: weyland yutani is a better name, and makes better worlds...

[rant]my friend you are sorely mistaken. fox pwns you. fox pwns you good. if you want a greedy company look at microsoft. they bought out the developer making halo so it could be exclusively for the xbox. no ps2, no gc, no nothing. microsoft cant compete with competition so they buy them out. granted their operating systems and some programs are good and many people use them as well as i, they are still a greedy company.[/rant]
