    It has been canned, not canceled. Reading the news post, it would seem that the publishers didn't want to risk releasing the game in a market that would not buy it.

    And this like it or not is as a result of people wanting the same thing over and over again.

    There isn't a market for origanal game ideas anymore. Tis a shame.

    I rather like to think it's the balls of the developers that is the biggest obstacle. For me I dont look if it's original or not. But the fun factor, and who can blame me??
    Anyway, I dont see how you can **** up about that and a SEQUEL <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Sequels are often good. Also, there's been a lot of good games franchises being shelved lately. What next, Starcraft 2? (Of which there'd best be one. Who was Duran working for? Will that be a question to eternally torment my mind? So...many...cliffhangers...)

    Meh. It's not like it was going to be much good anyway. Lucasarts have really lost their touch with their adventure games, and it's very much a dying genre. It'd pale in comparison to the original. Replay that instead <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    HOW COULD THEY DO THIS?! WHY NOT CANCEL CHRISTMAS?! HOW ABOUT THEY JUST STAB ME IN THE FACE FOUR TIMES!?!?!?!

    Waaaahahahahhaha. This sucks. They evaluated the current marked and decided they weren't going to make any dough? How about release it half finished and let us play the crash-to-BSOD every five seconds?! I would have enjoyed that!

    I cant believe they canned this.

    It appears that Publishers appear to enjoy being able to churn out pile after pile of poop like "The Sims" Expansion packs every few months, because they know retarded people will buy them, and they wont have to risk spending money on a game with original ideas.
  • LokeLoke Join Date: 2003-02-25 Member: 13988Members
    Boring to hear that. I hate when they cancel a game that you are looking forward to.

    this is from #lionhead, an IRC channel I frequent (and moderate):

    <Aaarrrgh> Neil|Work, pr@lucasarts.com - go on. Write them a long letter. You know you want to.
    <Neil|Work> I'll get Peter to do it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Neil happens to work at Lionhead studios. (actually, he might be working at bwgame studios. but erh.. that's irrelevant). Still, it would be awesome if lucasarts happened to receive a disgruntled fanletter from Peter Molyneux himself.

    I saw this too and am indeed sad.

    However, also part of me is somewhat relieved. Think of it like you would think about the grandmother with a severe terminal disease who is confined to the hostpital and is in terrible pain. When she finally passes away you're sad that she's gone, however you also have the feeling of knowing that at least she's out of the pain she was in.

    Same thing here, LucasArts hasn't really made a good game since Grim Fandango and judging by the trailer from last E3, I think that trend would have continued. I'd rather have no Sam & Max at all than a very crappy Sam & Max sequel (a lesson learned from the Matrix!)

    And what a sodding great game that was. I loved the characters, the atmosphere, the locations, the music, the sweet, sweet tie-up ending. Someone really was smoking something special before creating that little gem.

    <b>What?!</b> Nooooo! *sob*

    I'm dissapointed, but not all that surprised - the market for quality games is shrinking rapidly. And I don't think Sam and Max 2 was going to be a case of sequilitis.

    And I also don't think this is a fault of the game-buying public, I think it's a fault of publishers refusing to allow developers to innovate, and the public just putting up with it.
