Wow. Poor girl. Can she feel nothing? Or just no pain? Suppose you want to tickle the kid. Would she laugh or just stare at you with her...one...eye. What should they do, you think? She has to be uber careful-I mean, she could have a 14 inch gash on her back and not notice it! That's horrible.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->How does a three year old sneak out of bed.     BEST. ARGUMENT. EVER.

There's no way she might have decided to wake up and get out of bed. This is a three YEAR old, not a three MONTH old, so she would'nt be in a crib that prevents her from getting out. I'm assuming that was the basis of your comment.

Not smart this last post dude.... Not wanting to be rude or anything, but not smart.

Ignoring this, and returning to topic.

It really is sad this info on the poor kid. Maybe they could research this deseas and find a cure? I really dunno, but just maybe.

And is it just me, or is it depression day on O/T? Second disturbing topic I read today....

    "Avoid interfering?"

I didn't write that as an admin, tedor. I wrote that as a "person" who "talks" on a forum, who has at least as much right to post here as you do.

My only contribution to this thread as an admin will be to lock it when it catches fire.

i don't think they could find a cure for the diseases within her lifetime since it's so rare and all.....

I don't know if they are good parents or not (none of us here can make that judgement)

but I know they are incredibly resourceful and determined, in order to actually have this diagnosed in their child it would have took an incredibly amount of time and effort to final find an expert who could identify this disease.

She is the only person in north america to have this right? That means you could go to 200 doctors and they would just say she has a psychological disorder, trust me docs are so much more likely to prescribe you pills than consider there is something bigger at work.

If nothing else these parents are smart people.

As long as she can hold on to what vision she can have until she is older, they might be able to correct it a little.

Her teeth will be replaced by adult teeth later, so that isn't a problem.

However, I can't imagine going around without feeling pain. How will you know if you cut yourself, if a bee stung you, if a shard of glass two inches long jabbed into your heel. I really feel sorry for her. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

^^ somebody wants to be banned.

she would have to go on a schedule for eating and using the toilet, twice a day, every day same time <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> (although <i>messing</i> oneself in first grade could have disasterous effects on her social growth)

i feel bad for the girl missing an eye, and she could break her leg and not get it set properly. however, this disease will do wonders for her psyche. surely someone with no concept of pain will ahve an odd outlook on life. i predict shes got three possible outcomes: world renowned philosopher/author, suicide victim, or serial killer. surely someone with no concept of pain will have the weirdest thought processes and some very different ideas.

But does it go good on bread?

    Anyway, back on topic:
The reason they pulled her teeth out is for obvious reasons, when you can't feel anything you dont know if your teeth are resting on your tongue hard enough to bite a piece off. Or figure you are eating steak, but while you are chewing on it you don't realize that a piece of it is your own tongue that you bit off. Like for anybody that has had a dentist give you novacaine before drilling your tooth, you know how you can't feel anything in your mouth for like an hour afterwards. Well that is how her entire body feels. I just have to say, she really has no chance of survival, unless she gets into one heck of a habit of checking herself for injuries every 10 minutes. Because imagine she takes out the garbage, there is a shard of glass sticking out of the back that gets her in the artery that's in your ankle, now she would be bleeding pretty badly. But she has no way of knowing, and probably wouldnt have any idea of what is going on until she passes out from blood loss.
And about her eye and stuff, I can imagine all this stuff happened before they realized what was going on. I figure they second they found out they started doing things to protect her against, well, herself.

here's a fun discussion i had with tedor and his friend. i'm v3n0m6.

18.31.01 Magus Tao: cribs are designed so that kids cannot get out of them. if your kid can, get a better one
18.31.18 V3n0m6: some are good climbers.
18.31.23 Magus Tao: some are bad cribs
18.31.25 V3n0m6: we bought three in a row for my sister adelle
18.31.35 V3n0m6: the third one had a net over the top.
18.31.36 shotgun fiend: your parents are obviously bad parents
    18.31.39 shotgun fiend: adelle?
    18.31.44 V3n0m6: that's her name.
18.31.49 shotgun fiend: im aware of this
18.31.52 shotgun fiend: shotgun fiend: your parents are obviously bad parents
    18.32.04 V3n0m6: why?
    18.32.07 shotgun fiend: ...
18.32.10 shotgun fiend: shotgun fiend: adelle?
18.32.12 V3n0m6: because they didn't know their daughter was a mini tarzan?
    18.32.14 Magus Tao: AHHAHA
18.32.21 V3n0m6: she climbed out of the crib once, they bought a new crib
18.32.37 V3n0m6: she climbed out of the higher crib, which is a feat for a 2-3 year old
18.32.43 V3n0m6: she climbed out of that one.
    18.32.48 V3n0m6: and so they bought a climb-proof crib
18.32.56 V3n0m6: tell me where the stupidity is?
18.33.02 shotgun fiend: shotgun fiend: adelle?
18.33.02 Magus Tao: shotgun fiend: shotgun fiend: adelle?
    18.33.14 V3n0m6: adelle is stupid?
    18.33.21 shotgun fiend: affirmative

so they conclude that an infant is stupid by wanting to climb.

parents of the century, i tell ya.

Thing is, if you know your daughter has a disorder like this, you would have to find some way to watch her 24/7. Special care is used on other special cases, it would definetly have to be in this case. This kid has a super rare disease, you just can't treat her like a normal kid, you can't just leave her to her own devices for even 10 minutes, because she could wind up with a missing hand, or eye. Now I can understand if some of this stuffed happened before the parents knew what was going on. Though there is no excuse that even more things happened after they realised she had this syndrome, because now they know what is going on, and they know that the kid can't help it, so they will have to prevent it. Now the article dosen't really tell us whether most of these things happened in a period of weeks, or happened over a few years. Seriously though, if things like this continued happening over the period of a number of years, how could you not notice? Even if you didnt know it was a syndrome, you would still imply some kind of technique to stop her.

the only way to make sure she won't hurt herself is if you tied her down to a chair
