Wow. Poor girl. Can she feel nothing? Or just no pain? Suppose you want to tickle the kid. Would she laugh or just stare at you with her...one...eye. What should they do, you think? She has to be uber careful-I mean, she could have a 14 inch gash on her back and not notice it! That's horrible.

There's no way she might have decided to wake up and get out of bed. This is a three YEAR old, not a three MONTH old, so she would'nt be in a crib that prevents her from getting out. I'm assuming that was the basis of your comment.

I don't know if they are good parents or not (none of us here can make that judgement)

As long as she can hold on to what vision she can have until she is older, they might be able to correct it a little.
Her teeth will be replaced by adult teeth later, so that isn't a problem.
However, I can't imagine going around without feeling pain. How will you know if you cut yourself, if a bee stung you, if a shard of glass two inches long jabbed into your heel. Anyway, back on topic: The reason they pulled her teeth out is for obvious reasons, when you can't feel anything you dont know if your teeth are resting on your tongue hard enough to bite a piece off. Or figure you are eating steak, but while you are chewing on it you don't realize that a piece of it is your own tongue that you bit off. Like for anybody that has had a dentist give you novacaine before drilling your tooth, you know how you can't feel anything in your mouth for like an hour afterwards. Well that is how her entire body feels. I just have to say, she really has no chance of survival, unless she gets into one heck of a habit of checking herself for injuries every 10 minutes. Because imagine she takes out the garbage, there is a shard of glass sticking out of the back that gets her in the artery that's in your ankle, now she would be bleeding pretty badly. But she has no way of knowing, and probably wouldnt have any idea of what is going on until she passes out from blood loss. And about her eye and stuff, I can imagine all this stuff happened before they realized what was going on. I figure they second they found out they started doing things to protect her against, well, herself.

Thing is, if you know your daughter has a disorder like this, you would have to find some way to watch her 24/7. Special care is used on other special cases, it would definetly have to be in this case. This kid has a super rare disease, you just can't treat her like a normal kid, you can't just leave her to her own devices for even 10 minutes, because she could wind up with a missing hand, or eye. Now I can understand if some of this stuffed happened before the parents knew what was going on. Though there is no excuse that even more things happened after they realised she had this syndrome, because now they know what is going on, and they know that the kid can't help it, so they will have to prevent it. Now the article dosen't really tell us whether most of these things happened in a period of weeks, or happened over a few years. Seriously though, if things like this continued happening over the period of a number of years, how could you not notice? Even if you didnt know it was a syndrome, you would still imply some kind of technique to stop her.

I didn't write that as an admin, tedor. I wrote that as a "person" who "talks" on a forum, who has at least as much right to post here as you do.
My only contribution to this thread as an admin will be to lock it when it catches fire.
