Why on earth does CS get such a negative view on these forums?
What did g0053|\/|4|\| do to you lot?

    Because Counterstrike introduced about 300 generations worth of stupid newbie players in one gaming generation. Only slightly exaggerated, but the gist is there.

    CS is so much of a simple game in comparison to Natural Selection, I believe many people would associate CS with the source of the "newb" population - its the first mod that online Half Life players hear about, and so becomes full of them. Natural Selection is much more serious, advanced, and complex - in general, people who play NS have graduated from the school of CS, and vaguely know what they're doing.

    I still enjoy CS with my mates, and don't have a problem with it. Just seems that many people around here hate CS and think they're above that style of play.

    Maybe. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Because even though an absurd number of people play CS, I view it as a bad game and a half-arsed attempt at a half-life mod. Meanwhile, NS has been in production two years, and is a 100% replacement of HL visual/audio content, and it is many times more creative, yet doesn't even manage a tenth of the playerbase because most of the CS community is too stupid to play any other mods.

    And THAT is why I hate CS. It's sucking the life out of many smaller mods and the HL modding community as a whole because a massive fraction of the playerbase refuses to play any mod other then CS.

    I don't think anyone particualry hates cs, just the ub3r 1337 hax0rz that it generates.

    Don't see a bad point.

    N00b + anyone who's played Q2 on hard = <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    CS made online gaming mainstream in a way that only Blizzard have equalled. Battle net and Valve are just the best way to play online. Steam was a step backwards, sideways and into an aesthetic goo puddle, but still delivers NS, CS and HL....

    n00bs are just another fact of life. Besides, you've got to know what your doing to get NS, so total n00bs are avoided that way I guess.

    No, they just come to the server regardless and ruin the game, admittedly unawares of why they are a problem. If you have someone who thinks the game is all about killing and doesn't follow orders, or res hoards, you're in trouble. Too many of them and you are dead.

    Because people in general are close minded.

    "Oh you play CS, you suck, you don't know how to play true NS, stop ramboing and do what we tell you"

    CS is the "Doom" (the game) of online gaming, it brought (including myself) a lot of people into the FPS online game world, however because the percieved notion that it is a simple game to play, and it is just a glorified deathmatch, people look down on it. (even though it is neither of those)

    CS is still lots of fun, it has it's moments as does every game.

    CS sucks nothing out of anything, the reason NS doesn't have the huge player base that CS does is directly proportional to how hard it is to pick up this game and just play it. The first night I played NS I knew nothing, it wasn't intuitive, I have to build, I have to evolve...WTH...it took time, fortunately I know how to keep my mouth shut, or I would of been told several times to shut up you "CS Noob". If anything CS brings people to HL, who then look at what else HL has to offer...

    The complexity of the game, game balance, and the community is what will make or break NS, not some other mod!

    To sum up...people are conforming to non-conformity...

    "I don't like CS because CS is what everyone else likes...so I am going to do what I want, and not like it, just like everyone else that doesn't like it...."

    Well like I said, I like both NS and CS. Maybe I have a unique view, without conforming to either side of the argument.... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Admittedly I really only like CS when players can work in a team-like manner, which is becoming rarer and rarer.

    Unlike in NS, where team play is rarely not in existence, in my experience. Which makes it so different from CS; not necessarily better, and it does NOT make CS crap.

    There's a multitude on threads on this topic, please run a search.

    Personally, I don't care very much about CS in either way. It's just not my game, I guess.
