What Is Going On

My comp is messed
Whenever I put a certain file into a certain floder the system says Explorer has caused an illegal bug and has to close. However, eplorer is working fine I can still browse through my files and my computer and stuff. The file that will be named in the report is always C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER34.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt.
The file and WER34 or whatever number is after it (it seems to be random) doesn't exist. What's worst about this is that it didn't used to happen and it also happens and happened first with an Alpha Centauri AC no CD crack I downloaded that crashes with the same error message whenever I do a certain thing. The site I DLed it from is reputable but I think I may have a virus. However, my Anti-Virus isn't finding it. What is going on?

reputable but giving out no cd cracks heh

are you sure that file doesn't exist? (show hidden files)

The ~ don't mean it's the actual path. "DOCUME~1" for example means "documents and settings"

Yeah I know and by no CD cracks it doesn't give out the program simply a program that allows the current program to run without the CD having to be in the drive. I know about ~1 thing and have checked the correct path but again I tell you it is not there.

One may have caused the other.

General application Failures, like the one you are describing, can be tied to any number of things. Including the possibility of viruses from a reputable no-cd crack site.

To start, run chkdsk from the command prompt (start > run > cmd > chkdsk /f c:). This will allow you to scan the hard disk volume for errors. If the volume has active handles, it will allow you to perform the check on the next boot.

I would also look into a virus check.

    What he said:
He's an experiment, create a Word document in your my documents folder, make sure show hidden files is on. Now open up Msword, or whatever. Now while you have that file being viewed on msword, go back to my documents, you will notice a ghost file with a similar name.

Did you try deleting the no cd crack? Download your antivirus updates
