Are Your Parents Like Mine?

P-KhanP-Khan Join Date: 2003-05-27 Member: 16776Members
I think my parents are wierd... I mean, it's not one of those teenager-hates-parents-thing, but I'v been comparing them with the parents of my other friends from school.

You see, all of the other parents complain that their kids go out too much and that they don't study. I'm exactly the opposite. I hardly leave my home (only for movies, skateboarding, these kind of stuffs) and I'm one of the best students in my school.

Now, my parents they are the opposite! They sometimes say I study too much, and that I need to get out more. I mean, when they say get out more, they mean go to parties and clubs! Heck, I hate those things. When I get an invitation to go to a party, I need to throw away or hide it, cause they force me to go. Once, my mom almost broke the computer cause I didn't want to go to the party.

And when I mean by party I mean the following:
We call this 'balada' in Brazil. It's basically what happens in a night-club. Lots of techno, lots of people dancing, and lots of weed. Some people find this fun, I don't. The only parties I go are the ones which is just hanging out with people, having some good food, good music, that's it.

Now, are your parents like mine? Cause I seem to be the only one who has this type of parents....

It doesn't apply to me, but I think you're going to make most people here jealous.

If you don't mind, what are your parents' occupations?

Nope, not like mine, consider yourself lucky, if i told my dad " Hey dad ive been invited to a party in brazil can i go?" he wouldn't let me. EVER.

My mum is weird. She says: "Oh you should go out more often, go to nightclubs" etc. Then when I decide to go she is like: "Don't go, there are bad people out there..."

    *sigh*

My parents leave me to my own devices and it works out pretty well. I go out a lot, come home late every weekend night and they don't seem to mind. I keep up with my schoolwork and all that, maintain a high B average, and generally have my **** together, but still, they seem like they don't mind what I do.

If anything, I guess they're kinda similar to yours in that they encourage me getting out of the house and stuff, but they don't really have to force me to do it. It's a good relationship, I <3 my parents, unlike most other teenangsters.

I dont think it's weird....my parents are like yours (Well they don't break computers over that stuff, but they encourage me to do a lot of things )

But I'm pretty honest with them...I always tell them if there were any drugs or alcohol at a party, so they are cool with it as long as I don't do drugs and I can control how much I drink

They blame everything on the computer. Once I got a C- avarage in religions, and they went crazy. My mom got the stapler and threw it at the computer, saying it was the things fault that I got a low grade. Good thing she has a bad aim.

They're wierd. They want me to study less, but I can't get anything less than a B- (although, I always do get a C avarage in religions and ToK. Useless subjects...)

While I'm not going to be all threadjacking and start a drug discussion here, I smoke marijuana and haven't seen any drop in my grades as a result of it. I don't get why people see abstinence as a thing to boast about. I remember a Voltaire quote along the lines of "Use, do not abuse; neither abstinence nor excess ever renders man happy," and I just think it's good to try things.

Whatever though, you might have some motive behind the way you are. Don't care to start an argument.

Anyway, back on topic. Yeesh, that's rough, the stapler thing. My parents used to blame crap on the computer too, and no matter how hard I tried to convince them that it wasn't the computer causing problems, they never listened. They never went as far as chucking crap at it, but err, I know where you're coming from. Stealing my power cord didn't really help the problem either, but they didn't seem to get it at the time.

Lucky. If I pass beyond 3 miles of my house, my mom calls the police, fire department (HELL KNOWS WHY?) and the National Guard.

Native American or India? Anyways, my parents dont really say much to me anymore, I respect their space they respect mine, I make the good grades they want and I have a good social life. The time I'm usually on the PC is when everything that needs to be done is done and it's chill time for the rest of the day.

My parents are EXACTLY the same. They are always telling me to get out, they let me get away with murder by ways of curfews and hanging out with the GF (they allow me to sleep over her place, or vice-versa). Unfortunately I hardly ever stay out late enough for any curfew to be a problem, and my GF's parents are too strict to let her hang out with me at all, so it's kindof a moot point. But yes, it is weird. And when I tell otehr people abotu this they tell me I am lucky, but I hardly ever take afvantage of it anyways.

My mother is sort of like that. Well, she was. Now i'm out all the time and she has the nerve to COMPLAIN about it. I used to be a complete recluse, but now i'm not.

Hate these type of parties, with techno music and weed all around.

Don't drink, and I don't do drugs. Unlike some people I know from school....
Nothing against people who do it (unless they become violent because of this), is just my way. Hate those things.

first i was in year 4 i was lonly, but loved my life. i didnt need people to make me smile like others. my parents were worried about me getting "deppresion and related deseises" even tho i was a happy lil girl... all they card about was me getting out of the house, so they forced me to go out ......2 years latter i was in year 6, i was on top of the world! i had the whole school as my friend and went to every party!!! then.... oneday something happend.... im not going into detail.... (but i blame this on my parents). i lost all my friends... all my lost friends (now my eneimes) made me misserable and suicidal....all through year 7 i was like satan, i'd kill (kill is over exaggerated)anyone who looked, talked or walked with me. and guess what!! my parents still wanted me to go out!! soon i became terified of people and crowds, i hated them so much. then my parent told me to go out because they were scared id become DEPRESSED AND MISERABLE!! i really thanked them for freaking up my life. i began to get counceling and seeing psychiatrists..... now im in year 10, iv got friends and im extemly cautios of other peole i dont know (when i meet them personly), but after many years of recovering of what my parents did, im happy again! ). i thank my parents for screwing with my young life.......DONT LET PARENTS TAKE CONTROL OF YOU!!!! (sorry if i went slightly of topic)
